Alcohol and recovery from hemorrhoidectomy

Any alcoholics out there? I am not sure if I am an alcoholic, but I do drink wine nightly and a substantial amount. I have never had difficulty when unable to drink, but those occasions have been rare in recent years.

I am assuming with the pain and pain meds immediately post surgery ( which will be the cut out kind/soon), I will not want to drink, but am worried that I will revert to my coping friend and suffer from ingesting alcohol and making my recovery worse. I also do not want to tell my doctor about how much I drink because I am afraid he will be worried about prescribing pain meds to a confessed alcohol dependent person.

So, anyone with info on this ? Did you drink while recovering? Did it make it worse? Or, did it make it easier to deal with the pain?

Please, only people with real life experience respond. I am in a terrible place and have to have this dreaded surgery. I have no choice. I'm just so scared I will not survive it. I am hoping to post a favorable recovery story in the near future. My dr. seems very confident! But then, I read so many stories of horrible recoveries, where the patient was not aware of the level of pain this surgery exacts.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, my main question with this post is " How bad is alcohol during recovery".

Thanks to anyone that responds. I will stay on this forum after my surgery/recovery to aid all in the future. This is the scariest decision of my life!

Anyone? I have been reading on here compulsively. There was a poster named janesomething ( a bunch of numbers) and he posted about drinking whiskey ( which I would think would be very aggravating), and stated it helped him deal with the pain. Or, will I be in so much pain that if I go through any alcohol withdrawal, it won't matter?

avoid alcohol for at least 3 months. your recovery time will be about a whole month..next month could be a clotting one where the condition will either improve or go down. after completion of third week i think you can start little alcohol
