Alcohol and sertraline

Does anyone know if it's okay to have a few drinks while on sertraline 50 mg? Cus I'm almost 18 and I've stayed off the drink since I started the meds and I'm on them almost 2 months now, it's killing me not being able to have a few drinks with my friends going out, does anyone know if it's okay to have a few on these meds or is it dangerous?

No you are not suppose to drink with this medicine I'm pretty sure it says it on the pack or in the warnings that the medicine comes with you can also ask your local pharmacy that you get your medicine from but I've took this medication for a while off and on and I've been told not to consume alcohol with it.

I've been taking sertraline 50mg for 4 weeks.. Last week I tried having a few drinks, I only had 3 drinks, and nothing bad happened that night, but I felt very hungover next day, which is weird because I wasn't even drunk at all!! Two nights ago u tried having two small glasses of wine, I was absolouwtky fine that night and the next day! Alcohol can make anxiety and depression worse, and of course yore advised not to drink on these tabs.., but I have! And nothing bad has happened. Maybe just try one or two, in a safe environment to check that nothing happens!

Also, my friend takes this medication too, she has done for a few years, she drinks alcohol and says it makes her drunk more quickly, and sometimes it makes her slightly emotional, but never anything dangerous has happened..

I'm 19 and probably wouldn't drink even if they said I could i freak out about anything and I'm always big on reading warnings but if you don't get any symptoms I wouldn't worry about it unless something happens but I'd still discuss it with the dr I no longer take this medicine because of the side effects it gave me but I only developed side effects when they started upping the dosage to in the 100 of mgs I've took this medicine off and on 4 years I'll probably go back to it eventually when I go off the rocker again

Here is the official advice taken from the manufacturers website:

Using sertraline together with ethanol can increase nervous system side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with sertraline. Do not use more than the recommended dose of sertraline, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medication without first talking to your doctor.

Maybe this information will help you.
