I've been on 50mg sertraline for 8 weeks and just starting to feel my old self so I went out drinking on Friday in good spirits and cannot remember a single thing past a point in the night has anyone else experienced this total memory loss

I have experienced increased shakiness and anxiety the morning after having a couple glasses of wine. My dose is even smaller 25mg. I know people that don't have any adverse effects but they have been on sertraline for much longer. Every body is different I guess. My advice is to limit alcohol for several months? Did you drink more than a couple? Maybe liquor will effect you differently than beer or wine.

HI
Yes I drank a lot only lager , like you I've had a couple of wines or beers before with little affect only feeling slightly more hungover in the morning and slightly anxious
Lesson learned that although sertealine makes you feel your self mixing drink with prescription drugs don't work one being an antidepressant the other a depressant think I will leave the drink alone over Christmas
Thanks

Take care. Yes, I agree. It's hard enough with the anxiety. Adding the alcohol just isn't worth it. It's fun for a little while but the day after prove its not worth it.

Hello mark
Do you mind me asking how you have found Sertraline so far? Have you had many side effects or needed time off work etc?
My doctor has prescribed it for anxiety and depression. I know I need to start it but getting Christmas out the way first and worried about work. Constant anxiety attacks means I have missed a day or two more than I should
Thank you!

HI Thomas
For me it's been an up and down road for the first 6 weeks then by 8 weeks feeling my old self hence the night out I can't remember
I havnt stopped functioning with sertraline and anxiety got better the longer I have taken them first couple of weeks where tougher
With Christmas coming limit alcohol as this increases anxiety and don't do what I did and go on a heavy session as this has shocked me the mixing drink and prescription drugs could have devastating results
Take care

Hi Mark,
Alcohol with sertraline does some wierd things to me. I've noticed very severe anxiety the day after, and that was only after 2 glasses of wine.
I haven't had memory loss but was noticably more drunk than i should have been after a couple if drinks. It seems to make alcohol have a stronger effect.
It just doesn't mix well, and honestly I don't think its worth drinking at all if its going to feel that bad the day after.

I realise this was 10 months ago but it's a good discussion so wanted to write a few lines...
WARNING: if you are on Anti-D's you have to make a choice. Give up the Anti-D's or the Alcohol. I have been on the pills for 18 months after a particularly difficult time. I asked about having a drink and the doctor assured me that it would be fine in moderation. Problem is I've never done anything in moderation and merry went about taking the pills and going out. I am now at AA, I am close to losing my marriage and have royally p****d a lot of people off! The problem is with mixing the two, is that your brains natural response after an evening out is to say "stop i've had enough" and you stop, with Andi-D's this doesn't happen (my brain at least) has not stopped mechanism so I don't know when enough is enough. I have now majorly blacked out 4 times and each of those times my behavior has bee such that there are relationships with close friends i will never get back. This 18 month has been hell on the drugs. I am now off them and fighting new battles which I would never have needed to.
Also be careful that they don't numb you from life. I have now stopped and the difference is like changing the photo filter on your phone camera from vintage to HD8K. I have gone cold turkey which was not a good idea and ive stopped drinking. Anti-D's are addictive and a powerful drug which the GP's seem to give out to anyone who says their having a bad day. Dont get me wrong they have their place and for me, the first months on them really helped but that is when I should have come off them.
My advice from one that has a massive amount of bridges to build, is to take the pills, sort the other stuff out in your life to make it easier, and then come off them and while doing it don't drink, just please don't, I know from people at AA and own experience, that for some its the beginning of the end.
That was a lot of doom and gloom for this time in the morning - right new addiction coffee!! ;-)

Oh Mike that's awful,i feel your pain
Im on 200mg of the blooming stuff now and at this time of year where people are inviting me to BBQ's etc its a nightmare,i honestly cant even take one small drink without feeling funny
Starting to feel like an outcast now
The last time i had a few glasses of wine,i felt like hell the next day,it wasnt a normal hangover, the anxiety and panic was so bad i nearly went to A&E,i ended up in my bed for the whole day feeling like death warmed up and the next day wasnt much better
It is just going to have to be a big no no whilst on these bloody tablets, the side affects are just to much with alcohol

Thanks Mark
Its nice to hear someone else is on my level
Ive got a hen night a week on friday and am totally dreading it
Yes i know i don't have to drink, and am not going to due to the horrific side effects with the sertraline, but some of the girls that are going ive never met before, and being in social situations like that are always awkward (they presume you are an alcoholic or pregnant lol) and it's too embarrassing to explain the situation
You just can't blooming well win eh xx
