Alcohol and sertraline

Hi I've just been to the doctors yesterday and finally got diagnosed with depression and anxiety after years of having them, my gp prescribed me 50mg of sertraline and I had one tablet last night and I haven't had my one today yet. My family don't know I'm on antidepressants and because my great grandmother would have turned 100 today they wanted me to have a glass of proseco to celebrate: I only had half a glass with orange juice mixed in but now I'm really worried about taking my tablet tonight in case it interacts badly D-: do u think it will cause any bad side effect s or am I being a drama queen lol?

Hi you wont have any problems with Sertraline  and alcohol i am a bit of a drinker myself and admit i was a bit worried about taking both at the same time but i can safely say you wont have any problems have a great night

I would be very careful. Every time I drink on Sertraline it knocks me way off. May not be an interaction but it just generally makes the anxiety/depression worse and does the exact opposite of what the med is trying to do. Having one though I am sure will be fine xx

i feel normal today after having that drink last night so I don't think it affected me luckily and I don't drink normally anyway so I shouldn't have this problem again haha but thanks so much for your help have a good day :-)

The most important thing here is that you take your meds at regular intervals.  Half a glass of alcohol won't hurt but not taking your meds just messes with your system.

Further to my previous comment, try talking to your family.  I did and discovered that half of them were ADs!!

Yh I was thinking maybe I should skip taking my tablet yesterday but I'm glad I didn't cos I feel okay today and idk what the effects of skipping would be and I probably will tell my family at some point it's just working up the courage I guess 😅Thanks for ur help! :-) xx
