Alcohol as a substitute blood thinner

I have read some articles regarding the blood thinning properties of alcohol and am considering using a good Marlborough region Sav Blanc as a substitute for my nightly Xarelto. Has anyone had experience with this?

Major study needed to examine the therapeutic values associated across the various varities of Sauv blanc and dare I say, other grapes?

The overnight temperature hit single digit last night so I have begun to think about stocking some good reds esp from Longueduc region.

And ... I attended a Scotch tasting in Feb just before my operation. I may just have to get one that tickled my taste bud to examine whether I still fancy it after thr #1 with 'other blood thinners (lovenox injections) and assorted pain meds. This will permit a comparison point for post thr#2. Valuable data I think ...

    So much work to do.

    Thanks for the giggle John.

After 5 long days in hospital even the nurse told me to go home have a nice medium fillet steak and a glass of red 🍷

Because of a heart condition I will probably have to take blood thinners for the rest of my life starting from two years ago, but that doesn't stop me having the odd tipple now and then! It's good for the sole😁.

I did get it that you were asking the question 'tongue in cheek' and it's been humorous reading some of the replies. Did you ever hear of the comedian Dick Emery. His catch phrase was "oh, you are awful, but I like you" which sums you up to a T.

Well your comment did give me a giggle. Who would have thought that a blood thinners comment by John would have led to us all talking about wine beer champagne and fish n chips. We need a good giggle us hippies!

How is everyone doing? I am 5 weeks post op today and doing ok and making good progress. Pottering about more and getting out for a walk and keeping up those exercises. Lovely friends taking me out for cake and coffee twice this week - yippee! Hubby gone back to work for a break and left me with our moaning spaniel (dog) cos he misses his dad! :o)

I'm doing well too Polly. I'm eight months post op first hip and nearly four weeks post op second hip

I am getting about well indoors unaided and just use one crutch outside. Also, like you pottering about and doing more each week.

It's the best thing I ever did!!

Wow you have done well to have the second one done so quick. I had my first one in 2014. I shouldn't really have left this one so long. I gather like me you  are in the UK, as you referred  to Dick Emery. Like you, so far so good and each day gets better and I found another muscle today that is working a bit better now. Hope you continue to improve.

I am English but I live in France. I have been here for 14 years and love it.

I was booked in to have the second one done this February just gone and then again in June, but as I said to John, I have a heart condition and it wasn't considered safe to go through such a traumatic operation, so they were cancelled. I had to have a heart operation in the spring and that and sheer will power, got me through my second hip op.

It's been a tough year, but I'm doing well now and very happy.

It's funny that you should mention about a muscle working better, I have also found one and it has been giving me some pain because it kept contracting after relaxing but today it is a lot better. The walking helps doesn't it.

I hope your recovery is comfortable and continues well.

      Xx
