Alcohol Deprevation Effect and Kindling

    No, not the same.

    The Alcohol Deprivation Effect is when someone who tries to abstain from alcohol finds that the longer they try to abstain, the harder the cravings are to resist, which can eventually lead to a relapse.  In addition, it was shown in studies that repeated cycles of deprivation actually make cravings more intense.

    Kindling is the name given to repeated alcohol withdrawals, which increase in severity over time and from a neurological issues leads to a stronger possibility of seizures each time alcohol withdrawal happens.  I may not have quite worded that as it should be, but basically withdrawal symptoms get worse with each withdrawal.

      I now know the difference. I thought they were more or less the same thing, but understand both conditions now.

    Joanna has covered it. I tend to think of ADE as what pulls you back to alcohol and kindling as alcohol not letting you go.
