Alcohol tolorance

Hi, so i've read here multiple times that although you should not be drinking while on methotrexate, people have found that their alcohol tolorance has gone way down. Has anyone else had the opposite effect?

Not me ! I've been on Mtx almost 3 years. For the first 2 years I didn't drink any alcohol. My liver function is still fine so I've started to introduce the odd drink. My Rheumatologist told me that I can have a maximum of 4 units per week. However I find even a couple of drinks on the same night effect me. I feel like I've drunk much more than I actually have and I usually get a bad headache the day after. I'll still have the occasional drink as I enjoy it, but I will stop immediately if my bloods show any problems.

    Hi Tina

From NEVER drinking, because I had a low tolerance (and basically didn't even like alcohol), after 3 years on methotrexate I am craving red wine. How odd is that! There have been no social changes in my life, so it seems strange....maybe something in red wine? Interested to read that we should only have 4 units a week on Mtx. (I'm on 20mg dose). You do learn things on this site smile

Well, I've been on MTX for a year and have completely gone off alcohol, amongst other things.

Have also gone off potatoes, meat and gravy.  All very bizarre!
