I had both eyes done same place also assisted with laser. about 6000€ in total.

surgery was done by dr kohnen.

    im 25 years old.

to make the letters on my phone kinda clear i have to reach out my arm to the max and then it still kinda has some blur to it. so about no 30cm like kel has.

both eyes were 80% 3 weeks after surgery.

I hate the glare and starburst at night. especially on a country road im literally blind until the oncomming car is away. the glare and starburst is huge, like bigger than the car and its going far beyond my driving lane.

i can kinda use my phone on the biggest font but its more comfortable with reading glasses.

at night my distance vision is so bad an im sure ill need glasses to fix that. they miscalculated my iol power, so idk what kel says about professional team, they have been so unprofessional from the beginning towards me and i had to wait 3 months longer because they somehow forgot about me.

im very unhappy with the results and the whole experience with this hospital. they literally told me OHH YOU CAN DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH NO PROBLEMS.

oh yeah they told me i should go for the laser assisted surgery to correct my astigmatism on my right eye. they did that but due the laser i got astigmatism on my left eye 😄DD

    awesome.

also i got light streaks going downwards through my whole vision from some traffic lights or cars.

i should have just went with monofocals, but when the docs take 4 minutes time for every patient and just try to sell you something. ofc you wont get what you want.

night driving was the most important thing in my life and now thats gone.

f**k everyone, this whole experience was bad from the beginning and now im 6k€ poorer.

So sorry the surgery did not get you the results you were told you would get. You are so young to gave cataracts. Often younger eyes notice a much bigger difference than someone of normal cataract age whose eyesight has deteriorated.

What type IOLs did you choose? The surgeon should have mentioned that night vision is a compromise one makes to see better at all distances, but from how you describe having to hold your arm fully extended it doesn't sound as though your near vision is very good.

How long ago was your surgery. If less than 6 weeks you could still be healing and vision could still improve.

I have EDOF lenses and did find night driving improved with time. Hopefully yours will too.

Thank you Sue, if you remember me I was the one doing so much research and asking so many questions about different IOLs.

I got the Acrysof IQ Vivity Implanted in both eyes, so the same like Kel and I even had the same doctor.

Its been now almost 2 months since my surgery and glare or sharpness at night didnt improve. I have an appointment in a couple days, dr kohnen told me he could fix my astigmatism he wont charge the work cost but only the material costs, idk if that means 100€ or if it means another 2k€.

Also im afraid if he will fix situation because of the wrong power IOLs with the Lasik procedure my glares or starburst could get worse, since thats what many people with lasik get.

I have read so much positive about this lense, I have no idea why it sucks so bad for me. The only hope I have is maybe using eyedrops pilocarpine if the glare is due my pupils, but besides that I wish this to no one, but im still glad at least Kel had good results.

Maybe this life isnt ment for me.

hi mister, sry for your bad outcome and that unsatisfied experience...

unfortunately there is always a risk and it seems that you are stuck in the not so positive group.

Your wrote that you had 80% on both eyes after 3 weeks post op, now you are speaking of 2 months after surgery....any improvements?

btw 80% on both eyes isnt a bad result (i got 80% and 90%), not many patienst go out with 100% on both. so i wouldnt say they calculated the lens power in a false way.

so as far as i can read out, your vision at normal light conditions are not that bad or?

i guess the main problem is located in the glare and starbust that bother you. if thats correct i would wait for lasik or any treatment, i guess that will make you main problem "night driving" even worse... if its really not acceptable and you have glare, starbust from every light source even in daylight i would maybe consider a lens exchange.

btw, maybe you mistake my results with philv11 experience which is located in this thread. my experience is in another threat called vivity.

If astigmatism is the source of poorer vision / increased glare you should be able to correct that with glasses. Personally I would hold off of any treatment especially lasik. I know you have invested a lot of funds but it may be worth getting a completely outside opinion with another specialist

@Kel so you also think lasik would make the glare and starbursts worse? 😦

because thats what he offered me he could do...

in normal lightning my vision is fine, i mean my neardistance is at alike 60/70cm . in dim lightning ti gets worse. idk it also feels like i loat conrraat sensitivity, the darker spots feel more darker than before. back then i was driving over 250 kmh on the highway with no problems, now it would be a suicide mission.

lens exchange would suck so bad after paying so much money and bad explaining of.the doctors ans surgeons.

is it worth killing myself over this idk. i just wanted to be able to drive at night again. and now im just depressed.

i am no expert, but my guess is that lasik could not do much for you.

it will eventually improve your far vision to 100% and maybe get you some cm in near vision, but wont help you in your main critics like getting a better light / contrast sensitivity and you increase the risk of getting more starbust / glare at all.

have you tried to get some kind of correction with glasses? maybe it will help a little bit with the glare and starbust.

the loss of the contrast is normal if you get an edof or multifocal iol, depending on the architecture. you are very young so you will notice a harder difference then older people who are already familiar with losing some contrast.

and like sue already told you, i would get a second opinion before i would sign any treatment. most important thing is to give the doctor a detailed and clear instruction what do you expect from the treatment and what are you wishes.

anyway all post-catarct patients are not the ideal candidates to race at night with 250 km/h. from my perspective i fell safe and comfortable travelling at normal speed limits, maybe you have to go for a family car and getting other hobbies. 😉

btw maybe you have a little secondary cataract, which increase the glare and starbust like i have. if thats the case i would wait anyway if a yag treatment is necessary or not.

thanks for the replies. i will definitely see what my ootions are without making it any worse.

i havent tried glasses yet because the doc said i should wait till my vision stabilizes.

i just wondered do glasses still work like they did before cataract? my brother explained it to me that with glasses the distance might get sharper, but therefore i would lose the near and intermediate vision i have from my edof lenses?

At 25 years old you would notice a dip on contrast sensitivity regardless give your age versus someone of normal age for cataract surgery. A younger person's pupils also dialate more - sometimes beyond the IOL causing other visual disturbances (doesn't sound like that is an issue in your case. Only individual can decide what trade-offs they want but I do feel surgeons owe it to be honest and very forthright about these outcomes on one so young vs a senior person of normal cataract age. There are no guarantees (least not yet) and worse cannot even try them on like a pair of glasses.

Personally I would give it time (6 months) before making any decision. Monofocals have less contrast sensitivity than premium lenses but you will need glasses for at least one distance (depending on strategy used like monovision).

Don't despair things do get better as you adjust and accept and adapt. I developed tinnitus in my ears and thought I would go mad (would give anything to hear silence again. It took time but I am able to tube it out (would never have thought so in the beginning).

it is amazing how adaptable humans are.

just be patient with it. I would not let these doctors do any more. I doubt lasik will improve anything and may limit any options down the road. If after several months you can't bear it seek out a skilled surgeon's opinion on your options. it required extra set of skills to do exchanges - not your average cataract surgeon.

      Wishing you well.

No, Pilocarine won't save you. I've been using it for 2 years and it helped me a lot, but this road goes nowhere. It is a bad gateway error, you won't be ale to live that way, don't you even try. I am in a very same situation like you, but I have a monofocal lens. You must understand that we are very young and probably there s no suitable lens for us. I chose a monofocal to avoid dysphotopsia and ended up with dyshptopsia. But, I consider IOL exchange anyway, for another monofocal.

go to germany and get the human optics aspira monofocal iol. 1mm makes a difference.

my man sorry to hear you struggle with the night issues too, its pretty depressing.

you say pilo helps you alot, but dont recommend it?

Im open for anything that reduces my glare. I can still drive at night, but less glare would be way better. also no light streaks.

just sucks that i now need glasses for night driving

My surgery is also planned on 22Oct and would like to decide whether to go Alcon standard or vivity.

    Any recommendation please?

    Hi

I am scheduled for cataract surgery in a few weeks, my Dr told me about this new kind of lens. At first I was just going to get the monofocal lens but the Vivity sounded like a much better type of lens without the glare or rings. I hate wearing glasses and would love to reduce my dependence on them.

I am interested as well in what people's experience is with this lens. I found a couple of promos on youtube but it was all glossy marketing testimonies.

Also what is the price you have been quoted for them? I want to make sure they are worth the high price tag.

    Thank you

    Cindy
