All about oral fungal infections from autoimmune disorders and prednisone

I just learned that I have a fungal infection in my mouth and it is not from Candida. And in fact I would not have known I had it had I not had to have a sore on my tongue that was not healing biopsied for cancer. Fortunately the oral surgeon also requested the lab test the sample for a fungal infection. I'm just telling you all this because I know that we all are concerned with getting thrush which is a Candida but I did not know that there were other forms of fungi that can grow in your mouth and not even have any outward manifestations.

Without a doubt good news. And the funny thing is as I was sitting in the chair waiting, he came in and tried to start looking in my mouth and I wouldn't let him until he told me the results of the test. Haha

It's called septated filamentous fungi. My oral surgeon told me that was not a Candida type of fungi. And I'm being treated with a mouthwash that kills fungus. I asked him for tablets because I hate doing the mouthwash but apparently the tablets interfere with a medication I'm on so I had to do the mouthwash. Four times a day for two weeks.
