All clear after endoscopy, reflux still happening now what?

Hi,

I have suffered with what I would class as severe acid reflux for years now. I quit smoking to try and help it, which it didn’t. I’m active and exercise a lot, I actively avoid foods associated with reflux, alcohol chocolate etc. I’m not overweight and live a reasonably healthy lifestyle.

I have tried taking a double doseage or lanzoprozole, I’ve tried ranitidine all with little to no benefit. After a large ish meal I feel horrible, ridiculously full and like it’s sitting at the top of t stomach. The problem is the reflux is not consistent, I can eat a perfect diet all week and drink only water and feel awful. I can have a weekend of drinking whisky and eating fatty foods and feel great! I am stuck now and really confused as to what it could be, IBS? Should I see a dietician? I had allergy tests around 5 years ago and it was all clear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Try enzymes with meals to start. You can get everywhere. Sometimes water makes me worse. Try adding small amount of baking soda to the water. Adjust accordingly by adding more and try to get a burp. Relieve pressure.

Jamietinch, the big question? Do you suffer from anxiety? All the posts on this site, including me suffer from anxiety.

Jamiestinch,That is interesting that so many have an anxiety problem. It maybe just a coincidence but worth looking into. I have been dealing with GAD most of my life but silent reflux for only the past five or so years. The only time I can think of that May have upset my esophagus and leading to my reflux was a food poisoning episode several years ago. Prior to that I was taking Cialis for a prostate enlargement problem and after thirty days on it I developed unrelenting heart burn which as it turned out was a listed side effect. Maybe some day a link will be found.

Jamie,  I had severe acid reflux(GERD)  and used the common antacids like pepsid complete and a prescription for Cimetidine 200 MG, taking 2 /twice daily. The symptoms persisted even with diet restrictions. I had nighttime attacks while sleeping, getting the regurgitation up to my throat.  I then read some literature which I decided to try on my own to supplement the aforementioned. It included the following:

I took over the counter Melatonin 3 MG which aided  my sleep pattern, and importantly

coupled with Tryptophan 500 MG.(at night) During the day because of the Lower

Esophageal Sphincter (LES) inflammation, I took 2 coated baby aspirin  as an anti-

inflammatory. Don’t overdue it with aspirin though.

During the day try herbal teas like Tumeric and Ginger. They are very soothing.

My condition up to this time had lasted some 3 months. BE PATIENT! It may take some time but when I added my own remedies,  the symptoms thoroughly subsided.  I

    tell you... It was miraculous!

If you have any questions I will be glad to answer them to the best of my ability.

    Rob
