Allen Carr easy way to control alcohol? Anyone done this??

Posted , 1 user is following.

I went to a clinic in Wimbledon, London on Saturday 15/11/14 and feel pretty good about my decision to get sober! I was drinking 2 bottles of wine every night when I got home from work and no longer took a day off as I had done up until about 6 weeks ago!

I had read the book last year and it worked for a couple of months but then I stupidly thought I could just have a couple and keep it under control but a year later I was back to the 2 bottles and no day off each week!!

I wondered if anyone had tried this method as I sure could use some support, dont feel like I am missing out but now I cant stop eating rubbish!! Can anyone help? Or know of a forum that could? 6 days sober and counting!!

hi Julie - bad news- there is no easy way to control alcohol- i truly wish there was- do you think so many of us would struggle with alcoholism if there was an easy solution- anyway fair play to you for getting help - it is not easy to admit to yourself let alone anyone else that you have a problem with alcohol- there is alot of help out there now- but it is important that you reach out and ask for help- AA- counseling whatever works for you- there is no prescriptive solution- if you feel that this book helps you stay sober - use it- use whatever means you find works- 6 days you should be starting to feel alot better- just be wary of falling into the trap of thinking you are out of the woods because you feel better- try and remember what brought you to the clinic in the first place- i wish you the best of luck with your sober life - well done you should be very proud of yourself

      Thank you pmcg21,

At the moment I am finding it easy to not drink, its just I was hoping there was other people out there on a similar journey with the Allen Carr way!

It completely helps you to reprogramme the way you think about alcohol, and I know I can have a drink if I want one as I am an adult so its my choice, but I really really dont want one!!

I am not sure how it works but it does!!

7 days sober and proud as punch!! (The non alcoholic kind obviously!!).

      wink))

      Hi pmcg21,

Just wanted to let you know that I think I have cracked this alcohol thing!

My Dad died suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday night after a short illness, it is the second shock death of a close family member in 9 months!

The strongest thing I have drank this weekend is limeade, and I am 16 days sober and proud of how far I have come!

My Dad was really proud of me and I won't let him down, but more importantly, I won't let myself down!

Thank you for your support and kind words of encouragement! It means a lot.

      Julie x
