allergic to lyrica

off to see the doctor again this coming monday. I seen a health nurse yesterday and she said I am allergic to the lyrica the rhuematologist put me on. I am itchy all over and swelling up some bad. Nausea too. So have to go off that one too now. Wonder if anyone will ever be able to help me with all these issues. My fingers are so swollen I can barely type.

"How do I know for sure that is my diagnosis?"
You don't, I'm afraid. It is a clinical diagnosis - i.e. it is made on the basis of the symptoms and that also applies to the disorder we all have which is polymyalgia rheumatica. Many of the symptoms overlap in these 2 illnesses and the experts have made lists of criteria that need to be fulfilled for them to say it is one or the other. In our experience many doctors, who haven't had either of them themselves, get very confused between the two. Most GPs should be able to make the basic decision - if they won't investigate a bit they need to send you to a rheumatologist if your symptoms suggest a rheumatism or arthritis-type illness.
Without knowing a lot more about YOUR symptoms nobody here can really say a lot or make any suggestions. However - your age and saying you can hardly move would be a basic starting point for a diagnosis of PMR too - providing you have other typical signs.
And for goodness sake - WHY can't you bring it up with your family?

You can check with your doctor about Cymbalta, or Savella. They're both alternative Medications used to treat Fibromyalgia.
