Allergy link to Meniere's?

Posted , 8 users are following.

I know everyone who has MD, or knows someone who has it, is desperate to find reasons for it and things that might help but I have read quite a bit about an allergy link and I wondering if any members were told by doctors that they had a food allergy or environmental allergy that triggers an attack. Has anyone been helped by anti-histamines?

I don't have any food allergy but the basic pollen allergy. I It seems as though members take betahistimine but that doesn't seem to be available in the US.

Yes Benedryl helps the noise in my ear. I know my allergies are definitely one of the reasons I have MD. I also have a history of verclose veins in my family and being in my late 40s I realize that I have had a hormonal change as well. So I finally come to the conclusion that in the last 2 1/2 years these 3 things have all come together to gI've me MD. MD is a symtom of other issues you are having. I am trying to figure and treat those things as well as learning to manage the MD issues. It's taking 3 doctors.. feeling so much better.. look up all the things that can cause MD.. Google is a great tool. Lots of theorys. Good luck

    Hi

I have also read this, but don't think so, I have hay fever and take antihistamines which I was taking this year when I was diagnosed. They didn't make any difference.

Hiya I have been told that vitamin B6 is good for vertigo and nausea I am going to try taking it. Perhaps it may help. I have also just been reading about a popper which clears your ears. Going to look into this area it costs around £100

Hi all. I started taking Claritin daily a few months ago. The Claritin here in the United States we need a prescription for, otherwise the Over the counter, we are limited on due to the pseudoephedrine ingredient. Anyway, it was constipating me (sorry, if too much info, lol) so this week I decided to take it every other day. Today, my ear is full, and ringing, so this tells me the Claritin helps. So I will go back to daily, and if the fullness is gone, that will be my answer. And then I'll start on a daily fiber supplement hahaha 😂

Amy,  so lot's of veggies, beans and wholemeal bread for you then......smile

It would be great if allergies are a factor for you and that the anti-histamines help you.

This isn't exactly an answer to your question, but my otolaryngologist (the doc who administers my steroid injections) said that the number of patients he sees in April/May complaining of vertigo when the pollen begins to fly, is easily double what it is at any other time of the year.  He doesn't know the exact link, but is convinced that there is one.

I haven't found any antihistamines that have helped, so far. But it looks others have had positive results!

JMJ  - Yes, I have read that quite a few doctors see more cases in the spring. My friend has started taking cetirizine but it's too soon to see if it will make any difference. The air pollution in London seems to make allergies worse in general. We don't trust air that you don't have to chew before you can breathe it!

I hope your problems posting have settled down.  I didn't know they limited posts here  -  I'm sure I am talking more than anyone at the moment.

There were more threads I wanted to start and more questions that I have,  but I thought I was overdoing it and should stop for a while.

RE:"We don't trust air that you don't have to chew before you can breathe it!"

OMG....LOL!!!  I know what you mean!  It's amazing that our bodies have adapted at all, to the allergens and enviromental irritants!  When I moved from the east coast to the midwest 16 years ago, I couldn't believe that America's "heartland" could possibly have such crappy air quality. Aerial views of Chicago clearly show the brown smog that envelops the city.  Sigh. Between the air quality and the water quality, our bodies are miraculous in their ability to function as well as they do.

RE:  lots of postings: I  feel the same way!  There's so much to talk about!  So much to explore! I have so many topics I'd like to post about, as well.  But I'm just not sure people would be interested. When it comes to MD,  I'm so interested in "connections"... Maybe one or two new ones per week wouldn't be so bad! :-).  I just read something on a genetics I site belong to, that's made me want to ask the group a whole bunch of questions!!.....For now though, I'm in survival mode.  My 16 week run of freedom from vertigo, ended Friday night.  I've had a horrid weekend, and now I'm on the phone trying to get into see my doctor for another injection.  The secretary is telling me the next opening is in December!!!  No way can I wait till December!  I'm using the "bombardment method"....Calling every number, using the online message system, calling the nurse in charge....I'm counting on them taking me in, just so I'll stop bothering them.  I've always been such a patient person...but not when it comes to this. I just don't want the cycle to get going again!!!

Hope all is well.  Looking forward to any updates.

      Take good care,

      J-

I have allergies to dust, hay fever etc. But have not been told by any doctors that it is connected.

Meniere's seems to be so complicated and not that well understood yet. Perhaps they will find many different causal factors for different people?

I have noticed that , in some women, having a baby brings back symptoms that had improved, Angela said that her whole body was out of wack with different problems and stress seems to be a big factor for some. So, perhaps allergies are a factor for some but perhaps not the majority...

Good luck and better health to everyone here.

I'm commenting on this thread again to see if anyone has found their symptoms were worse through the summer months.

I have done almost everything since I was diagnosed.

I was tested for Allergies, and found out I am allergic to everything,  I take two sprays of Nasacort every day and get allergy shots once a week.  Since I started this, I have only had 1 Vertigo attack.  (it has been 18 Months and the last Vertigo attack was 13 months ago.)

My hearing has not returned, but on a day to day basis I have less fluctuation.
