Almost 1 year since my procedure - update

About 10 months ago I found out that I had a bartholin abscess. It was treated and eventually I got it incised and drained. The entire ordeal from diagnosis to post procedure was about one full month of hell.

Things started healing and the swelling went down. After about 8 weeks I was okay. However my vagina is not the way it was before the abscess.

The affected area stills fills with fluid every time I get aroused. It sometimes aches after sex and gets swollen. Basically one side of my labia majora (where it meets the perineum) has a lump and looks larger all the time. I don't know if this will ever redeuce in size and just go back to normal. I have baths occasionally and check myself regularly to make sure there's nothing abnormal happening.

Is this the case for anyone else? Will I have to deal with this issue forever? Why is it still filling with fluid and increasing in size? I thought the procedure would have resolved this. It's not hard or painful but still a large frustration.

Hi, sorry for to hear your frustration. I got it incised raftly on september last year. It takes about 1 month fofother stitches to fall off and abt 3 to 4 months for the pain to recover. After that mine goes back to normal as it was before, except there are scar and vagina opening a bit weird. I didnt experience anything like condition.

Hi! I had a barthlins cyst for a full year. I tried lots of stuff, sitz baths, heat pads, meditating, pleading, doctors visits. Nothing worked. Then I asked my friend who is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner and Accupunturist that specializes in women's issues, if she would be able to treat me. She did ! And to my suprise, after a year of having it, it was gone. I had several follow up appointments , it reappeared very tiny just once. But never as bad as it ever was. I hope you find what works for you, I've heard of lots of women using different things. This is what worked for me.

I'm sorry to hear that you're frustrated but I know how you feel. I have had eight surgeries in three years and now I have a word catheter in to help with the drainage. I'm just going to get them to remove the gland completely
