Hi. You and I are exactly at the same time, post break. My doc told me I can weight bear "as tolerated." There is no way I can walk on it without my boot that he gave me.

And there is so much pain/swelling even then. Its totally normal to still have pain.  Don't push. Take your time. Redness and swelling can continue for months.

Reading all the stories on here, you will find many many people who are going thru this. Most cannot walk or do for themselves till month 4-5. They have been a great source of encouragement and information.

Full healing comes at about a year.

Dont be discouraged! 😀😀😀 Just take your time. Heal at your speed. I get how frustrating the slow pace is. I was super active. The sitting is driving me crazy.

    Great that you're exercising.

I cant wait to be at the four month mark.

Time and patience. Oh, and wine! Lol.

    Best of luck to you.

    Karen

I'm at the one month stage and finding it all so frustrating, sitting around is driving me nuts as I'm also a very active person, working full time as a nurse. It is useful to have a benchmark to aim towards and if it's for months then I'll just have to deal with the negative feelings.

i also dream of having a bath, glass of wine, sitting with my feet curled up under me. Isn't it funny how we go through life taking these things for granted until something like this happens.

this site is so useful as unless you've been through a broken ankle people really don't know the impact not only physically but psychologically.

good luck ladies with your recovery

In my experience and that of others is that this surgery is a tough one as regards to recovery unfortunately. It will take time but make sure you keep ahead of the pain with your meds so that your body has the best chance of getting on with healing.

May I suggest that if arm crutches do not work for you that you consider walking poles. It is important that however slowly you walk you maintain a correct gait.

    Good luck

    Cheers Richard

Thank u Richard I start putting weight on my put like 25% but I need crutches for the support . What else should I do for the swelling bcz it's seems like there is no such improvement and also there are lots of bruises like dark blue coloured

I would continue to elevate your leg whenever possible and certainly if it swells or starts to ache and after walking.

The use of those stretch stockings will help to keep the swelling under control and iced stretch bandages will also help. Keep ahead of the pain with your pain meds.

      Good luck

      Cheers Richard
