Almost 2 weeks after gallbladder surgery

It's going to be almost 2 weeks on Tuesday since I've had my gallbladder removed laproscopy. The first few days I was taking pain meds could hardly walk or even lay down. As days pass by I started feeling like my self again but I was wondering if it's normal to feel sore where the insicions are at ? And if so how long does the soreness take to go away completely? I feel better i stop taking the pain meds I'm up and walking more I feel like my old self again but like I said there are times were my insicions are like sore and makes me freak out so I was wondering is this normal to get soreness once in awhile.

    Hi Yvette

Yes, it is normal, I had my gb removed end of June and am totally pain free now but I was sore for quite a few weeks at insicion sites., especially my belly button one. Be kind to yourself for a few weeks, the layers of tissue have to knit back together from the inside, take it easy.

    Good luck.

Mine came out Monday 3rd and I’m feeling ok. Delicate is the word I’d use but I’m conscious to be careful.

Hi Evette be kind to your body as all the other guys on the site have stated. I’ve over done it recently and I’m feeling some discomfort and exhaustion again it was to help my other half with his work. He’d been ill so I wS caring for him.

I found the umbilicus site belly button very tender and sore for some time and brushing took a while to fade! I also had a stomach drain site which took a while to feel better. Due to large Gallstones.

Good luck with your recovery! Pleased for you that it was fairly quick and that you feel so much better kind regards Joanne

    Hi Yvette25498,

I had my gb removed on 5th September and am having lots of pain. Feeling a little better today, had to take laxatives and had a small bowel movement. Have to sleep pretty much sitting up, but I’m so nervous of pulling incisions that I walk doubled over too!  Let me know how your first week went with pain relief etc xx

      Hi Fit Bee,

I had surgery on August 28th it was an outpatient everything happened super fast was home the same day I rested for 3 days straight can't lie I did walk a little bit here and there not to much. I was having pain the first few days it was hard for me to sit up, sit down, walk, or move around I wasn't able to sleep in bed just yet so I slept on the couch sitting up with legs elevated. The doctors prescribed Norco and I only used it for the three days I was in pain. Next week Tuesday will be my 2nd week of surgery and I go see the surgeon next week as well and I'm praying that he gives me good news about my insicions healing. I am walking much more and doing light activities I'm not carrying anything heavy just yet but I do have to admit I do get a little bit of pain by my belly button and one of the top insicions here and there I just apply an ice pack the pain I can tolerate it I don't have to take anything for it when that happens I know to sit down and relax for a bit. As for bowel movements the first 2 days I had diarrhea now I'm having regular. First few days I was bloated and very gassy. Also the first 24-48 hours I was on bland and now I eat whatever but I try to stay away from fried and fatty foods and if I do eat I tend to eat small portions.

      It'll get better within time.

      Hope you feel better soon

I had mine Monday and it’s a step forward and 2 back for me. I overdone things today and paid the price with a headache and lower abdo pain. My bellybutton is sore and we took dressing off now to help it dry. We’ll see

      Hi Brujadegales,

Did you have the steri stripes on your incisions?

I have 4 steri stripes and I still have them on the doctor said they will fall off by themselves or when I go to my 2 week visit with the surgeon he'll remove them. It's almost been 2 weeks since I have had surgery and once in awhile my belly button gets sore.

Hi Yvette: yes it is normal for your incisions to be a bit soar. They will be til they are completely healed. I had my gallbladder out last year in Feb. If he used dissolvable stitches, then yes. Take it easy for another 4 weeks til your completely healed. And if you get cramps those are normal too. It is because of the special gas they used to inflate your abdomen so the surgeon could see. The cramps are just your organs putting themselves back in order in your body. But for awhile just watch the greasey and fatty foods for awhile. It takes awhile to recover. Take care and take it easy.

Can you tell me how long it took for the ‘bloated belly look’ to disappear. My abdomen is very distended and bloated looking. Have put on about 8ibs since hospital stay and subsequent operation. Thank you

It takes time and we are all different. Mine is swollen but I’m losing weight as I’ve no appetite
