hello everyone,
im almost 4 years after my left hip replacement and I find that if I overdo things like standing, walking or bending for 8 hours at work my hip in in pain and the pain is from the hip down to the knee...
Ive already contacted my surgeon to have the consultation, fingers crossed he will get back to me asap.
i had really physically demanding job last year and that's when the pain first kicked in, then I've resigned from the job... But the pain was still there from time to time ( especially when I overdo things)
But I did ignored it , don't know why and didn't see anyone about he hip pain
Now he pain is back
im really worried now and hopefully the doctor will give me some answers
I'm only 25 years old so I don't want any revision done on my hip for good few years

That is so disappointing for you. It sounds to me as if something has moved or become loose for the hip to be giving you pain after all this time.
Scans and x rays should quickly pinpoint the problem and if a revision is needed I would find a surgeon who is experienced with doing them.
All the best, Richard

You probably need an xray to see if it can pin point anything but you definitely need to see your surgeon to find out why this is happening.
All the best.

Hi Angelika, are you doing physio? Is the pain muscular or bone? If you rest does it go away? I have resigned myself to s life of swimming, weight training to keep those muscles fully working and I find that the pain is going down and I am developing more tolerance. Or able to do more strainous exercises for longer. I did get x-rays to make sure nothing had changed or moved. Also is your hip cemented or cementless? I had to have a revision after 21 years because the pain was unbearable and my leg felt like it was coming off. Indeed the spike was loose and I had bone deterioration. The ball also had shifted and my sciatic nerve was been triggered. It had been a year and I am back to 100 percent but had to have an implant to secure the spike and I can feel it on rainy days. It does not hurt it just feels like a tight band around my thighs about 2 inches above my knee. I had to be laid up for 8 weeks so the bone would heal. My left leg was 3 times it's reg size and purple from the waist down to the knee which I could not bend for s good 3 months.

In the worse scenario - if the hip is loosening or is damaged , does it mean I will need hip revision quickly ? Also is the recovery time the same as after the first hip replacement ?
I'm so stressed and worried now :-(

Dear Angelika
I'm sorry that you are still waiting to hear the results.
If the stem or the cup is not firmly fixed and stable or has shifted position then unfortunately the most likely scenario would be a revision.
I can only speak from my own experience of a primary and a revision of it a few months ago. My apologies if this is a repeat story but if not I hope that you will gain some strength from it.
My surgeon said that the recovery time would be much like a primary.
In the event it it was very much longer but there was a twenty year time difference and I suffered an accident in the ambulance bringing me home!
With the primary I was able to walk out of hospital with one walking stick which I dispenced with a day or so later and was back to work (self employed) in about a week, and driving in three.
As I was taking blood thinning tablets for several years before the revision, the bruising was very bad which I'm sure made it a much harder job to regain muscle strength. In the event I was walking well without crutches three weeks after being given the all clear to weight bear.
I was 55 when I had the primary and 76 for the revision and both were done posterior approach.
I know it is a tough situation and hopefully you will not need a revision. Please let us know how it all goes.
Cheers Richard
