Many aloe vera products are high in sugars so keep a check on your glucose levels. Prednisolone is a gluco-corticosteroid which bumps up glucose levels.

Margaret, I know another lady who swears that Alo Vera helped her PMR, although at the time I did read an article advising that it could possibly interact with Pred.  As with all things, it might work for some, but do check it out for any possible interactions with steroids, either online or a good local pharmacist.

Didn't we have a question about aloe vera before? I'm sure I found something then but I have just found this:

"Oral corticosteroid drugs, such as prednisone, and aloe juice may both promote the loss of potassium from the body. Therefore, levels of potassium in the blood may become too low if aloe juice is taken at the same time as prednisone. Low blood potassium is called hypokalemia. Symptoms of hypokalemia can include constipation, muscle weakness, nausea, hallucinations, respiratory failure, and cardiac arrest. Although the risk of hypokalemia is slight, aloe juice and prednisone should not be taken at the same time. Topically-applied aloe gel is not believed to interact with corticosteroids, but a doctor should be consulted before aloe gel is taken orally at the same time that prednisone is being taken. Discuss this potential interaction with your healthcare provider at your next appointment, or sooner if you think you are having problems."

Somewhere else I found a statement that "aloe vera enhances drug effects" with regard to taking with pred. That could mean it will work as a steroid sparer, so you get the same effect for a lower dose of pred. It could also mean that it will enhance any side effects too.

I'd say maybe try it, but be careful and very aware of what's going on and watch for any effects. Make sure you eat a decent amount of foods high in potassium - we've had a few ladies who had problems with low potassium after being on pred and BP medications that make you lose potassium in your urine.

Personally I think it tastes disgusting!
