Alopecia areata

Mother of 3 yr old daughter, she has been diagnosed with alopecia areata and I have been given steroid lotion for morning and night. I don't know what the future holds for my little girl and I'm finding more bald patches so far they are all underneath so they don't show, I'm waiting on her blood test results to see if her thyroid is ok other than that my world has stopped, it's been two weeks and I'm worried sick, if someone is in the same situation as me pls get in contact I feel very anxious and don't know anyone who suffers with this, our family knows and only one of my friends but I feel if everyone knows they will just be studying her hair and not look at her the same.....

Hi, I've took my 3 year old little girl to a doctor today as this morning her hair was falling out when brushing it. I was really hoping it'd be ringworm (atleast that's curable) instead I was told that she has alepecia areata , caused by viral infection? I have to take her to have her bloods checked next week, I'm worrying so much for her. She's developed 3 bald patches today & I'm just so scared she's going to loose a lot more as her hair looks as though its thinning on top. I know this must be nice for anyone to get, its just she's a little girl & loves her hair. How is your little girl doing? Has she got any better with treatment? I don't know what I'm supposed to expect or how this progresses, or even if it will get better.

My 2 and a half year old boy has been diagnosed with it, he has lost all his hair now. He doesn't seem bothered by it at the moment, but i'm so worried he will be picked on. I was near enough told if his hair hadn't come back within the year it was very unlikely it would come back at all. So I think he will be bold for the rest of his life. I get so upset for him. reading all the other comments at least make me realise he's not alone x
