Alopecia areata and is getting worse - really depressing

Posted , 4 users are following.

I am 30 year old female with very long hair. 5 months ago i was diagnised with alopecia areata. There was no reason for it, i didnt experience any shock like others. It started with one small patch which kept spreading (and still is) and after that i started developing many more patches. I think i've got about 10 in total but some of them merged and I have 2 large (larger than my palm) areas which is getting really difficult to hide.

I have been told that i cant do steroid injections anymore as the patches way too big and been prescribed steroid tablets. Has anyone taken them? Ive seen reviews it is very small posibility that it will help.

I am so upset about all this and it is still keeps spreading.

I have also noticed some very short hairs growing back but not on the bold patches, instead it is between the areas where my hair is long. Has anyone had that before?

    Hello Kim,

Sorry not to reply to your message sooner.  I have been away.  I am very sorry to know about the distress that your hair loss is causing you.  I am not an expert by any means; my interest is because of a recent bald patch caused by prescribed medication.  A friend has recommended a keratin booster.  You can buy it online but she is sending it to me from America where it is cheaper.  I am not in a position yet to recommend, it or otherwise. I simply mention it as a ray or hope.

      Hi Brenda,

Thanks for your reply. You mention about the bald patch caused by prescribed medication. What medication that is if you dont mind me asking? The reason I am asking as I believe this all started for me due to being prescibed Roaacutane too high dosage.

    Hello Kim,

I was prescribed Alandronic Acid for asteoporosis.  I noticed a bald patch at the side of my head after taking four tablets - 1 a week for a month.  I stopped taking it immediately.  The patch is still there but I can cover it OK.  Check for side effects of Roaccutane on the web.  That is where I discovered that Alandronic Acid could cause hair loss.
