Alternating stool sizes?

in the recent couple months I've been suffering real bad with my ibs and my anxiety is super high. i have pain on my upper left side (dull ache). it comes and goes. I am alternating between narrow, ribbon like and normal (for me) stools and it is making me worried. i keep seeing undigested food, mainly seeds. Even after attempting to eat healthy with high fiber I'm still having these narrow stools. has anybody experienced this with ibs? should I go to the doctors?

All your symptoms are normal for IBS. Try reducing your fibre and stay as calm as possible because your anxiety will not be helping your symptoms and will increase the length and severity of your flare up. Sometimes, eating healthy foods can aggravate your IBS and some find that reducing fibre rather than increasing it helps them more. Try a food diary to see what foods are not digesting well. Once you identify these foods, avoid them.Try managing your IBS this way rather than seeing your doctor.

things got better for awhile but then came back worse than before and it just made me super anxious because I've never had a flare up last this long. Thank you for the reply.

Flare ups can last for days, weeks or months. My first flare up lasted three and a half months because I was very anxious because no one could tell me what was wrong. Try distraction techniques such as light exercise or a hobby. The key to controlling IBS, is managing your anxiety. My IBS IS in remission because I have got to grips with my anxiety.

I have experience this plenty of times. I suffer from IBS as well both C. and D. Normally what this means for me is that I am not completely evacuating. Not sure where you are located but I am in the USA, I was given a medicine called Lactulouse. Apparently this medication is like a cleanse. However over-the-counter laxatives also help. For me, it seems like once I clean out per say, my system starts to go back to normal.
in regards to the undigested food, I think that is just a side effect from being so full internally. Recently however, I discovered some of my issues are due to dehydration and lack of potassium magnesium zinc and chloride. You may want to get those things checked or start eating foods that are high in those particular things. Believe it or not, potassium played a large role in helping my IBS. Also drinking electrolyte drinks significantly helped.
