Alternative therapies for anxiety

Hi

I'm really struggling at the moment with health anxiety and just want to feel like the person a was again. I'm taking a low dose of citalopram and am starting with CBT again in the next week or so. I was wondering whether anyone hasn't tried any alternative therapies that have helped them - I just want to try to hit the horrible anxiety from all angles as I'm desperate to get it under control. I have been looking at acupuncture and reflexology in particular and would love anyone who has tried these to let me know if it helped.

Thanks

    Hi,

Sorry to hear you're struggling at the mo..

Things will improve given a little time and patience.

I've tried acupuncture and reflexology but for different things I find both helpful for my issues so why not give it a go! But I find guided meditation and mindfulness, this along with my ad and counsellor seem to be helping.. like you I want to kick anxiety in the butt for good so trying everything lol

    Good luck !

Thank you Sharon. It's hard to choose which option to go for first because there seems to be so many alternative routes which say that they will help. Ideally I would try everything but the costs are already mounting up with CBT once a week and yoga. I will have another look into the guided meditation thing again I think - there were classes available on my area. Thank you again and good luck on your journey too!!

Yeah have a peek, I find that actually look forward to bedtime now coz I fall asleep listening to guided meditation every night ( helps me feel more relaxed and it's "my time" and I've usually fallen asleep by the end of it lol and I listen to shorter "morning mediations" when I wake up before I get out of bed, I find it helps put me in a better positive frame of mind ( doesn't work every single time but def better )

      Enjoy "your time "

      X

      Thanks Lisa!

I started yoga a couple of weeks ago and now thanks for Sharon i have found lots of guided meditation videos on YouTube.

I haven't heard of some of the things that you have mentioned before but I will definitely have a look into them - thank you.

I would be really interested in your experience of acupuncture for anxiety. I've heard some wonderful things about it for other issues and have found a practitioner with great reviews.

I used accupressure was a big baby with needles but many do use it. It os costly where i am. 75 a session and they want you a couple times a week. I met one lady who got some kind of pen and does it her self..i guess similiar version. I never bought the special pen.

Biofeedback helped me incredibly a while back. Knocked out the whole anxiety disorder for years. But it returned and the person since moved out of state and im niot sure the center even exists anymore where i went then. 22 years ago. They hook you up so you know if your breathing correct or not. Literally guide you on self calming, that and what i think now is cbt but had no name back then.

Eft tapping is good as well. Needs patience. Ortner on utube can guide you with that stuff. I think its a subtle mix of accupressure and thoughts. I learned mindful excerises off utube lol. It worked i needed to be able to lower my blood pressure. I dont have the link I wish i saved it but theres many and an app as well. I never realized so mnay apps for all this stuff.

Thank you Lisa it all sounds really interesting. Acupuncture works out at about £50 a session on my area but you can get some reductions if you book a block of say 6 of them. I think this is what I'm going to opt for after looking into it a bit more!! I will definitely have a look at some of the other areas you mentioned though!! Thanks again!!
