alternatives to seeing a GP

Posted , 2 users are following.

hello all,

can anyone please suggest someone with medical experience/expertise/knowledge that I can go to just to ask some questions, chat about concerns, without having to waste a GPs time. There doesn't seem to be a type of person you can just see or phone to ask simple questions and get advice from when you're not looking for a diagnosis (e.g. if you just want more information about chronic conditions, but don't want to scare yourself by looking at online forums).

thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Maybe you could talk to your GP practices Nurse, or any Pharmacist and or read Patient UKs leaflets on the topics cheesygrin

    Hi theodore,

If you have specific questions on a specifIc subject you can contact bona fide Charities under the condition that deal with the problem. They are usually very helpful and will send you leaflets, give advice and sometimes direct you to your local area meetings.

You can also go and see a cognitive behaviour therapist privately, not as scary as they seem,

A proper registered person will talk over your worries and usually point you in the direction of other help and will give you good unbiased advice.

Maybe you just need to go to your gp and say whatever it is that's worrying you. Please do not worry about wasting their time. They are paid an enormous amount of money to treat you and it doesn't matter to them who comes into their surgery next.

If you are worried enought to post here you are worried enough to see the doc. Take someone with you for moral support and be brave.

You will probably find it wasn't so bad after all and your worries will be addressed and hopefully sorted out.

I also have chronic long term conditions and it's taken me years to be braver about airing my woes to my gp, I still prevaricate a bit but usually go along and it's always ok in the end, so I really do understand where you are coming from. Best of luck, Fanny Jane
