Alternatives to TURP for BPH?

Posted , 10 users are following.

I have had BPH for about 30 years. I had surgery about 20 years ago and have been taking medications but my BPH has worsened  especially in the last few weeks. I have discussed having the TURP procedure done but my doctor tells me that there is a bout a 5 % chance of being incontinent  and/or impotent afterwards. This scares me a lot. I have begun to learn about some other procedures like Rezume and I wondering if they have lower instances of these after effects. I would also like to know if there are other new treatments - and how they compare.

Hi Joseph, try the UROLIFT, read about it on the Web, amazing, had it done 2weeks ago, amazing the result.

Please keep talking to me if you want to know more

Hello - thanks for the reply. After watching a seminar given by Dr Gange at the mid year Urology Symposium I cam away with the conclusion that either TURP of UroLift would be my choice. They both seem equally effective but Urolift has had no instances of importance in 3500 cases. Now nothing was said about incontinence.   I am now hoping to find a comparison between the two in this regard. If you have any info I would like to know.

      Hello Jonboy999

Thanks for the reply. Has your doctor commented on your prognosis. Does he feel the incontinence will be permanent? I am vitally concerned about this since I tend to be somewhat incontinent now.

      Regards

We are now into week 3 since the procedure, back to normal, no running to the toilet, and no pads.

Don't hesitate to have the UROLIFT.
