aluminum femur head; metals allergy test

Hello: I am needing a hip replacement. The surgeon I saw uses the Exeter hip prosthetic. I believe it is made of a stainless steel stem, although the nurse told me it was titanium, and the ceramic femur head is made of aluminium (aka alumina, I believe) and oxygen according to the surgeon. I am worried about all these different metals, especially aluminium since we've been told that it may cause senility. Also, I read on this forum about someone who had a titanium hip put in only to find she was allergic after it was put in.

Does anyone know the safety of the aluminium material? Also, how do you get a metals allergy test? How do you find a legit test? There is a website I found that offers these tests but you need a physician's signature to have it done. I really want to get one done before having surgery, but I am worried about whether my physician/s are familiar with the test and if any one of them will sign for it.

Is anyone familiar with these tests?

you can look up on the internet what it is made from the manu and model. many are very safe. over a million since the 1970's have had hip knee other joint replacements. not one complication from a metal implant. there are ceramic implants ...i have have three hip replacements and no complications. the only metal issue is from metal on metal rubbing in the joint friction left behind can get into blood stream. thats a whole different issue and blood tests can find the metals , usually when the areas is worn after many years. very rare.

not to worry check with the manufacturer online and ask suri the question too... and you will find all the answers you need to feel safe.

    good luck...
