Am I a psychopath?

Hi everyone,

I have been really worried about something that has been bothering me for a week now and that’s that I’m convincing myself I’m a psycho path. Few days ago I went on a trip with my friends and boyfriend to a lake and my boyfriend was fishing. He kept on catching this fish that he told us you’re suppose to kill when you catch because it’s just too overpopulated. So every time he caught the fish I would say to kill it because it would be interesting to watch. But then something triggered in my head and I got nervous that I was turning psycho because I thought seeing a fish be killed would be interesting. Later that night me and my boyfriend were going to bed and I was having images of stabbing him and it was scaring the s**t out of me. Am i turning psycho? Why is this happening??????

Classic symptoms of Pure O OCD. If you wanted to do it you would of already done it. The fact that it’s causing you so much stress and fear means you never will.

But my head makes it seem like I have the urge to do it. Or that I want too. I’m not a psycho right? I would never want to hurt him or anyone but my head makes it seem otherwise....

I gave Harm OCD and I have Intrusive thoughts about jumping off a balcony, snapping my dogs neck, walking in front of traffic, running people over, violent recurring images of the most strange stuff. It’s all OCD. They are all just thoughts and with the right treatment you can manage these symptoms. I sometimes almost everyday get a urge to burn something with a lot cigarette. Would I ever do any of these things? No. Defiantly not. Google HOCD and see if it matches our symptoms. Go to a therapist/ Pyschiatrist that can assist you. If you have suicidal thoughts go to the Nearest Emergency Room.

Hey, just an over-active imagination. Honestly, nothing to worry about. If you were a true psychopath you would have bitten the heads off of the wriggling fish. Drowned your friends, stabbed your boyfriend 100 times, lucked the blood off of the knife and felt Nothing! Nothing at all. No remorse for what you have done. Thats a psychopath. You wouldn't act on these thoughts so try not to worry. Donna xxx

Hi JJ I want say your thoughts are completely healthy obviously, but will say that true psychopaths are born not bred and cannot be learned like anxiety or depression "not talking about bipolar which is a chemical reaction in the brain" but to be a true psychopath your fear will be zero, so when you say you scared of your thoughts that says your not.

Imagining something that is probably unhealthy thoughts doesn't mean you will carry out the actions, if you also suffer with OCD this could be like someone hurting themselves physically, you hurt yourself mentally instead.

If it continues go and talk to your GP maybe you need some type of therapy

      Hi Alexandria,

So that makes me feel ALOT better. But what do you mean psychopaths are born not bred?

Does that mean they are already born with that disorder? Also, another thing is that when I have these thoughts I choose to ignore them and not react tot hem but I feel like if I don’t react to them that makes me think I actually wanna act out these thoughts and I’m ok with them....

Hi JJ sorry for late reply, we all have what I consider to be strange thoughts and nothing bad happens to us or our loved ones, I used to imagine my partner dying in a car crash and how I would be able to cope, not in an omg way but I could have another dog, maybe move to a smaller house etc, I didn't want him dead of course just strange imagination I think.

He's still alive and kicking and I love him to bits and I still have wierd thoughts LOL it's not too much different to someone day dreaming, try not to dwell on it because that could do more harm than the actual thoughts, isn't mental illness awful but we survive, well most of us do take care

Were you going to eat the fish ?

You said the boyfriend if He caught a fish He would kill it because  the Lake was overpopulated ?

The reasoning from both off you seems quite strange. In the UK we game fish and also fish for trout, we are allowed to bag a number of trout. If it was a salmon, some waters ask for the fish to be put back after been caught We may be allowed one fish.

Course Fishermen are different, they may weigh the fish, then return it to the water, most course fish are returned.

You mentions  wanting to stab the boyfriend you could see what it would be like. Now you are frightened because of the killing of fish.

I do not know where this is coming from, although if you are concerned and have been unsettled by your thoughts, see your GP. He gets paid to work this one out, I am not a Doctor or Specialist

Hi you have proved that you are not a psychopath by asking if you are!  No one who is would ever ask so relax you are not.  x

Maybe you have a psychoemotional imagination. On this basis, there may be panic attacks.
