Am I going mad

Hi all,

Ive recently come across this forum and its been a god send. I'm 45 and seriously think I'm going a bit insane. I work full time in a busy school.

Symptoms are : Heart flutters - happen every so often coughing seems to put heart back into normal rhythm

Shortness of breath - walking up stairs mainly

Left sided pain - mainly shoulder, upper arm and ribs

Nipple shrinkage

Left sided boob pain - mainly shooting pain and in the top and side of boob

Tiredness - in bed by 9 most nights

I have seen the Doctor about all of the above, Heart and chest are normal, mammogram and ultrasound of breast are normal (and no changes from 5 years ago). Been told shoulder and arm are muscular !!!

I have a coil so have no idea if i would still be having periods some months i have spotting others i don't.

Is it possible all the above are linked to being perimenopausal??

Doctor dismissed me with antidepressants (that seem to make my symptoms worse (sertraline)) I don't think I'm depressed

I have an appointment for CBT coming up as i now think i have health anxiety possibly also a symptom. I sway between thinking every symptom is a death sentence and thinking i need to give myself a good slap.

Is there anyone that can offer any advise please to this slightly insane 45 year old

    hi Sarah

I have all the above. I don't have the coil as scared of making my symptoms worse:( My periods are so heavy I cont walk with all the blood loss and I'm so anemic.

They have become so erratic in the last 3 months. I've had all the checks and all clear.

I'm so fed up and tired

    Hey Sarah...

You are NOT going mad, even though it seems that way. What you're experiencing is the IMBALANCE of HORMONES & I factually know, they WREAK HAVOC on us womenfolk! ANY form of menopause is absolutely horrific, and I dare not sugar coat it!! Do your research and find out what vitamins & herbs, will aide you... in your well-being. Even if you decide to take meds, do your homework, find out what will help COMBAT some of the symptoms; and mind you, some of the symptoms leave and come back with a VENGEANCE! Lord, help us ALL!

Hi Sarah. I am post menopausal. I was put on anti depressants for anxiety. Side effects have forced me to go off them. I am basically a mess from the fear of all others symptoms I have. I dont have any solution for you but just know you are not alone.

    Hello Sarah....

I had a lot of the things you mentioned when I turned 45.....now 55 and finally menopausal. No, you are not crazy and the "health anxiety" is a common thing to have once you start into perimenopause. It's like your whole body is going haywire. It is a good idea to get things checked out to make sure everything is ok though.

Best thing to do is just keep taking care of your overall health. Eat well, sleep the best you can (my sleep was disturbed for years going through it) take care of your mental, physical, spiritual health to stay sane and healthy through it. It's a journey. You'll get through it!
