I am having that same problem. I just figured my weight gain was because if the types of food I have been eating. Baked potatoes (dry), oatmeal and rice (with nothing in it). I just try to find something that doesnt make my stomach hurt or throw me into diarrhea.

Are you certain that your weight gain is because of IBS? Generally speaking most people with IBS which is triggered predominantly by food ( rather than predominantly by anxiety) do better on a low fat, low carbohydrate diet , and limiting intake of sugar and processed food - all those foods which usually account for weight gain. I've had IBS for coming up to 3 years and my weight has remained stable throughout that time. I follow a Low Fodmap diet, which really has helped me manage my IBS and it enables me to have a varied and nutritious diet. I probably have a more balanced diet now than I did in my pre-IBS days!!

It might be worthwhile checking with your GP that IBS really is the cause of your weight gain, and not some other factor, such hormonal changes, underactive thyroid, change in lifestyle, activity or exercise levels etc. I think those of us with IBS often just assume that is at the root of all sorts of health issues and that is not necessarily the case.

Weight gain is due to bad diet not IBS. Weight loss is the same for everyone- you need to eat less calories than you need. Download something like myfitnesspal to track your calories and food intake.
