Amiodarone and kidney function
Posted about a year ago
Has anyone had amiodarone effect their kidney function?
I had a heart attack that led to a cardiac arrest in May and another cardiac arrest in June. I have an ICD implanted and was shocked for vfib and vtach numerous times in October so I was started on amiodarone. I had my loading dose in hospital and am now on 200mg daily. Was scheduled for an ablation but it was cancelled due to coronary artery vasospasms. They missed then in my original angiogram I May. I've been diagnosed with coronary artery vasospasms/Prinzmetal. But they aren't 100% sure.
My last blood test showed a decrease in kidney function.
My gfr went from 108 to 52 in 2 years?
This drug is my last resort, I need to be on it.
Has anyone experienced this? What happened, What did you do?
Thanks!

I am so sorry you are having so many problems. I have arrhythmias and thankfully they are under control now. But not long ago I was constantly in and out of hospital with a/fib which then morphed into tachycardia. I was waiting for a pacemaker but something happened and they just suddenly stopped. I was this way for two years. I can tell you that I was put on Amiodarone for my a/fib but it caused me hypothyroidism and I was taken off of it. If you need to take this medication I can advise you to look into your diet. I can tell you from experience that I did this and it helped me a lot.
Green tea is very good for the kidneys. You need to look into the effect gluten can have on your body. I also went to see a homeopath doctor because I was desperate. Since then I have improved. That is not to say all our doctors do not help because they do. She actually treated me for some mild stress I was going through which had a lot to do with the medications that had put my body out of whack, I was given some minerals to take and I also took some probiotics for a while. This helped to clean my gut because that can influence a lot. I feel so much better now. This is why I advise you to look into your diet as many of these minerals are found in fruits and vegetables.
I also take digoxin for my arrhythmias and it rarely gives me any problems.
Good luck I hope I helped x
