AMIS total hip replacement

Posted , 5 users are following.

a friend had the Amis total hip replacement, and recommended it. So I've been researching online. I discovered there was a surgeon operating in Wrexham, called Mr James Wootton. he was highly recommended by lots of patients and had invented a special table, with his engineer brother, to better perform the operation. However, when I called the Spire in Wrexham, they told me they no longer do that operation and Mr Wootton left 18 months ago.

Does anyone know where he might be ?

    hi janet,

I am sorry but can't help you here - if he is still operating he should be registered as Orthopedic Surgeon ---

    good luck

I tried a google search and only come up as Bupa (Private) or Wrexham... maybe he has retired or gone abroad..

I believe AMIS just stands for anterior minimally invasive surgery and this type of hip surgery is carried out by most if not all orthopaedic surgeons. It is not always an option however. A traction table is usually used during this surgery.

    Hi Jane

I am interested in ypor post.

I found out about Mr.Wootton a long time ago. There was a BBC programme about him and the op table his brother made.

When I looked him up on NJR his credentials looked good too. That was about 2 years ago,and he was listed at the Wrexham Maelor NHS hospital as well as Spire.

I was interested in an Anterior approach procedure and thought about travelling to Wales.

More recently however there is no trace of him on NJR or anywhere else.

Maybe he has left the country?

Be interested to know what you find out.

I am now going ahead with my THR by Posterior approach, which is more usual in UK. Maybe the special table and extra training are prohibitive due to cost.

    Good luck with your search
