Amitriptiline withdrawel to starting on Sertraline

Hello. I am currently being reduced from 20mg down to 10mg Amitriptiline, not pleasant to say the least. I have been given 50mg but to take 25mg Sertrline daily for depression for the next two weeks until I next see my doctor. I was wondering if I should continue with the widrawel alone or to start taking my new tablets of which i am petrified, could it make these withdrawels worse or could the new meds help over come them? Any advice or questions to understand would be gratefully appreciated. xx

Hi jas, I just started with Amitriptiline 10mg twice a day, to help me with Sertroline, I was on 50 mg for over 4 weeks, and I was very bad during the day, doc increaed to 100mg plus Amitrip. Today is my second day, and I am still restless etc etc. My question to you is how lond it takes for the Amitrip to work as it was prescribed to help calm me down. The one I take at bed time is fine and I sleep reasonable well, the morning one I am not sure, I took 10 mg a couple of hours ago and I dont't feel any better.

Any tips on this much appreciated

Don't be scared of taking Sertroline, becase it works, the side effects will go in a couple of weeks. I know.... This is my third time. I am new to Amitrip. And I am a bit concerned as you indicated the withdrawing symptoms are not pleasant. I will stop once Sertraline is working.

    All the best xxx

Isabel. Am so very very sorry, i have only just found this reply from you. I am getting to learn how to use my phone. I also just come back to this group and its all changed. Please let me know how you are now with your medication. Did you settle with amitriptiline? Amitriptiline was evil for me. Gave me horrendous body weakness to the point i became couch bound apart from anxiety walk out then back on couch. Destroyed my myscle strength. Sertraline has been pure evil. Horrendous nerve pain throughout my body. Sleepless nights. Muscle burning. Muscle weakness. Stomach anxiety. Really bad constipation. NOW i am in 2 weeks free of medication. Up and down at the moment alittle more mobile around my home. Constantly having to sit down. My body strength is so weak but i am building up slowely. My brain feels more focused. My brain fog has gone. My memory is working quite well after the years on prothieden for 3 years and another one was for 9 years. I really hope you find this message. I really am so sorry i missed it. I hope you have found something that works for you Isabel. Hope to speak soon. Take care xx
