Hi all,taken 10mg of amitriptline 7pm and it's my very 1st dose. Just wondering how long before it gets into my system? Also been told that it has a nasty effect if you have Alchol with it??? If I wanted a drink weekend could I just miss that nights dose???

    Hi there. When starting amitriptyline you will feel knocked out & sleep quite well. However you might feel groggy the next few mornings. It will take approx 1 - 3 months to get into your system.

    As for alcohol, it is advisable that you dont drink alcohol.

    hi eileen, in the past i have had a few 3 or 4 drinks while taking this drug. It is nor recommended and will make you feel more groggy and extra tired the next day. TBH in the first couple of weeks you will feel sleepy and groggy anyway. x
