I read somewhere that Amitriptyline was the most heavily prescribed drug worldwide. Even if that is not quite true it is extremely popular.

Yes it seems amitripryline is used for a variety of symtoms. I have been on the drug for about 7yrs for an overactive bladder. it stops me getting up 6 or 7 times a night. i can take upto 50mg a night no side affects from thus drug, not like predesolone.

Yup, I am on it also, 30 mg every night. I was prescribed it for neurogenic bladder due to MS. Same as another Margaret, it prevents me from needing the loo all night long.
It was originally Elavil, and it's an old anti-depressant. I've not noticed that it lifts me up at all, but if I stopped it, perhaps I'd then know. I have no plan on stopping, though, as it is very easy on me and does not give me a hangover. Helps with sleep.
I'd advise against taking it during the day, unless it's a day when you want to walk into walls and fall into bed.

I think a couple of people on another forum take it a couple of hours before bed - you have to find out how long it takes to make you sleepy/groggy.

I take my 30 mg at 8:00-8:30 p.m. and go to bed 10:30 to 11. I'm always a bit groggy from MS and other meds, but do not believe amitriptyline is contributing to that.

When i first started taking this yes it made me feel quite foggy in the morning, as Iv'e been taking it for so long I don't have any side affects. I take mine anytime from 9pm to 11pm, I get up at six to go for my 7am walk once I have taken my dose of steroids.
I sleep like a baby no getting up in the night for me.
