I take amitriptyline 25mg at night for pain and help with sleeping. I have Fibromylagia and have been taking it for about three years now, I sometimes take another pain killer during the day if necessary. It is used in larger doses for depression, which my friend takes. I no longer get the intense pain i had in the begining, but haven`t dare tried to come of it in case that pain returns!

The only problem I have with them is they make one very sleepy. I take three quarters of a 10mg tablet (7.5mg!) at 7.45pm. This may seem like very regimented, but taking it later means I can not open my eyes in the morning, taking earlier means I'm asleep in the chair by 9pm! This way I make it to 11pm usually. It does make me sleep well, but personally I have found I need to control when I take it. When I was first prescribed, I was taking 10mg in the morning and spent half the day asleep at my desk at work! That is the effect it has on me, but for the pain relief, it's a small price to pay.
I do seem to have stiff necks a lot, but a lot of drugs cause me to have that, especially Codeine.
I hope the comment helps.
Cheers, Chris.

whilst active i seize up when I stop. Its very painful to get going again. Knees, hips and neck are all
trouble spots.
Taking 50mg Diclofenac works where P/cetamol, Naproxin, Ibuprofen et al were ineffective. Trouble is
question marks exist round Diclfenac viz: stomach (bleed) heart, liver and kidney problems. I have a notion
that these might relate to me.
So, From what you all say Amitriptyline may be the answer. Sleepiness can, may be, managed. What other side effects can I anticipate?
Good luck, Gus.
