Amitriptyline Side Effects

I take 50mg Amitriptyline for chronic Epididymitis daily. However I do suffer from side effects such as constipation and no ejaculation. Is there anything I can do or take to minimise the side effects but still take Amitriptyline for my condition?

The first thing that comes to mind is to lower the dose you're taking and see if that helps with the constipation while maintaining the effect of amitriptyline

hi, i thought i would share my experience i was put on 10mg of amitriptyline for what they believed was fibro (it wasnt i was just having very bad side effects from being put on and off different AD and messing around with the doses!!) the doctor said to start with half a tablet and work my way up to a full tablet (which i never did) it helped me with my sleep so much. however after being on it for only 5 weeks i have taken myself off of it, as i found the constipation to be too much for me. i suffer with IBS-D and i was unaware that amitriptyline can also be proscribed to help IBS. i spoke to the doctor whilst i was on amitriptyline and she gave me so laxitives but they didnt help, with out being too gross i just never felt empty whilst on amitriptyline. i never felt full when eating, also i believe that amitriptyline slows down the digestion of food. im currently 5 days off of it and still havent gone back to normal but from what i read it can stay in your system from 2-6 days after your last dose. even tho i was on such a low dose im very sensitive to any kind of medication. i would call your doctor and ask for some soft laxitives or if you dont want to go down that route try change in diet, like the normal .. more fruit and fiber etc. hope this helps. how are you feeling now? are you still on it and has it subsisded? also if it has what did you do to help?
