Amitriptyline Withdrawal - 85 year old mom

Hello everyone!

I am so glad I found this group.

I am writing regarding my 85-year-old mom who was put on Ami for depression after my dad passed 21 years ago. Her former doctor retired and this new doctor said she needs to come off of it as it is very bad for you. However, she thinks there are no withdrawal symptoms! I know these drugs wreak havoc on your system once you decide to terminate usage. I was unable to come off of Cipralex because of the horrendous withdrawal symptoms. She would like me to put her on a drug in the same group as Cipralex to replace Ami. I would just like her to not take anything, period.

I am tapering her off slowly by alternating days and then going to 3 days, to 4 days, etc. On the 4 days, she is now experiencing headaches and nausea. She is 85. I don't think she can go months with these and other symptoms that will arise. She already has a very sensitive digestive system and also suffers from depression. As I have read many times on here, the GP is useless. They just aren't aware.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for all your help! Please stay safe!
