Amlodipine 10mg, side effects. OMG I have been suffering from tireness, acid reflux, nitemares ect

I was so happy to run across this forum. I thought I was going crazy. I have been having so many strange experiences. Nightmares, dizziness, depression, lack of appetite, not to mention sleeping anywhere from 12 to 15 hours a day and feeling like I don't have the will or energy to move.
I started taking Amlodipine 10mg Nov 11th, my friends started asking me what was going on the beginning of December, I thought it was stress from waiting for the results from a procedure I had done...
Well the results were positive, but my attitude didn't improve, then acid reflux begun. I have never had to take anything for heartburn, indigestion or reflux.
Now I wake up having to take something.
Plus all the other side effects. My God I rather take my chances and die a natural death than feel like this....

Talk to your doctor ASAP, tell him you need a different medication. There are only about fifty to choose from! Amlodipine is one of the oldest and now one of the cheapest, and while many people use it happily it also has a higher number of side-effects, and a wider variety, too.
I generally took only 5mg and finally realized it was making me feel horrible. I took 10mg only briefly and in retrospect it may have been what caused me to feel really terrible, so terrible I ran to the emergency room for it.
Note that when you stop taking it, it still takes a week or two before it clears completely from your system.

Hi there
I agree 100% with the previous post you need to go and talk to your dr asap and just say that they don't suit you, there are plenty of other options, sadly most of them gave me indigestion, I don't know why! please don't despair as there is a resolution, better than having high blood pressure.

Starting you on 10mg is ridiculous. Most people on BP medication don't need it. Depending on your age and weight "normal BP" can vary widely and when Doctors or nurses find "white coat" slightly raised BP they rush to prescribe tablets, when if the patient took their own BP at home it would often show up as normal. All these pills have side effects and a lot are much worse than raised BP. I take 1 magnesium tablet and a glass of beetroot juice a day, normal BP and no side effects.

Hmmm...I'm not doctor so it's just my experience, but amolodopine made me too dizzy so I
switched to felodopine...2.5 a lower dose than they first gave me at my request...no problems with dizziness but have lost some wait, wc is good and had increased BM's with some flatulence too...but dr. thinks that could be a bacterial bug to ck with GI...I know increasing my diovan made me fall asleep too so that's why I take felodpine in combo...and low dose. We're all differenct so ck with your doctor...

I'm currently in the process of weaning off amlopidine. The side effects have been terrible. My doctor started me on 5mg and then raised it to 10mg when she didn't like my blood pressure reading at the follow up appointment. My side effects includes headache, blurry vision, tingling fingers, severe lower middle back pain and extreme dizziness. The dizziness had gotten so bad that I was sent to the ER by rescue services because I thought I was having a stroke or something else serious. While at the ER, they perform blood tests to search for infection and performed a CT scan. Everything came back fine. Blood pressure was good and blood sugar reading was good. They couldnt find anything wrong. They requested that my doctor refer me to a neurologist. I am not able to see the neurologist until April this year. The thought having to wait so long to see a neurologist had me in tears. My quality of life has been significantly impaired. I decided to do some research on my medication and found this site. I couldn't believe the amount of people who have been having similar experiences with medication. So I called my doctor and explain what I learned and told her that I no longer want to be on this medication. She said I had to be tapered off since I have been taking it so long. She drop my dosage back down to 5mg for a week. The first on the lower dose was pretty good. I didnt have any dizziness at all. However, I am on day 5 of the lower dose and I feel like crap. The dizziness is back and I am extremely tired. I go down to 2.5 mg after day seven for a week and then I will done with this medication. I can't wait to some quality of life back. My doctor said it will take several weeks for my body to fully flush the amlopidine out. I'm just happy to be getting off this particular medicine even though I feel like crap now. I also forgot to mentioned that I have an impacted wisdom tooth that will be removed next week. The ER doctor said that could be contributing to my dizziness as well.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I was not aware that a taper was required for amlodipine, but you're already down so I guess that's old history. Yes it takes a couple of weeks to completely clear from your system.
Do you have a different class of BP med ready to go, once you're off the amlodipine?

Yes, I started out on Metoprolol before amlopidine was added a year ago. I never had any of those horrible side effects while on metoprolol only. I'm still taking it and will continue to take it after I completely stop amlopidine. I've been monitoring my blood pressure at home since lowering my amlopidine dosage and it's still normal and hasn't risen any. However, I have also added beets to my diet as I heard that they naturally lower BP. I don't like how they taste though lol.

LOL. Yes, beets work for BP, but I don't like them either.
Another food that works is - eggplant! If you can find the Chinese or Japanese versions where you can also eat the skin, that's easiest - just take the eggplant, put it in a heatproof (typically glass) dish, season to taste before or after cooking, microwave for a few minutes to soften, save the liquid that sweats out it has as much active ingredients as the eggplant. About a six-ounce cooked serving is as good or better than a serving of beets, as good or better than an ACE/ARB pill. I like it better than beets, anyway, but you don't want to live on it, so I still take the pills and just add the foods when the pill isn't doing enough.
Shiitake mushrooms also work, but they seem to cause a rebound - eat the mushrooms, your BP goes down, but the next day your BP goes up above where it began in some cases.
And of course dark chocolate has natural beta blockers, like the metoprolol, but if you already take that, you've got that angle covered.

Omg!! I had no idea that eggplants are good for blood pressure. That's great to know. I will have to add it to my diet as well. I will have to do research on blood pressure lowering foods. I was told cauliflower also lowers BP and I actually like cauliflower. I just don't eat enough of it. I will add more of it to my diet as well.

You are certainly not alone Sue. I sympathize with you. God bless you. I have had those side effects and more. Nervous jitters, dizziness, nausea, depression, stomach upset...etc...etc. Yes, I have had TERRIBLE acid reflux and heartburn with BIG TIME BURPING and bloating. Hard to leave the house when you feel like passing out. This pill should be illegal if causing all these side effects. I am typing this note while feeling weird. Ready to try something natural or without side effects. Heard about a new product on "Shark Tank" that controls blood pressure and cholesterol as well.I agree this pill is horrible. Praying for a miracle. Doctors not much help, other than to recommend a new drug with more side effects. Please post if you find something that works well for you.
