I am also on amlodipine, higher dose 10mg, have the same side affect of coughing bouts, and trying to clear my throat. The major problem is always being tired, ready for a nap all of the time, fighting the fatigue, making it difficult to exercise. I've resigned myself to accept this since my doctor refuses to take me off of this med based on my blood pressure being stabilized after many combination trials.

Yes, A hacking dry cough is one of the many side effects of many of the bp drugs mentioned on these theards . At the risk of repeating other comments have a look back at some of the older posts here, you will find a great deal out (as I did) about the drugs in used and side effects of which there are many.

I reply to all amlode sufferers, i feel bad because i seem to have every bad side effect. i came off 3 weeks ago, among other stuff, i still cough.( a lot) i told my doctor the side effects and that my life quality wasnt worth the side effects. he put me on another tablet. will let you know if it works in a couple of weeks!

Sorry to hear about your Husbands problems. I also have the same throat clearing problem, it is very tireing and makes me feel very depressed as it is contiuous. It also effects the Family, and tireing for them also. I am on Atorvastatin, was on Amlodipine but now changed to Candesartan. The cough is a lot better although not gone completely. I was on Lisinopril initially but on top of the throat clearing cough I started to have a dry cough...what a nightmare! It definately was the Lisinpril which gave me the dry cough. 

I wish you luck, the thing is that we all get different side effects from different meds. Its trial and error I am afraid. I am a health professional and have seen many different problems with drugs, never thinking that I would have problems....

I am on Amlodipine. I have been taking it for about a month. When my GP put me on this medication, she said that I could not take it with Simvastatin and changed my cholestrol tablet to Atorvastatin. Please get your husband to check with his GP. It states on line that Amlodipine should not be taken with Simvastatin.

I developed a bad dry cough on Lisinoprol so my Dr. changed me to Amlodopine. I have been on it for a few years now and have been suffering a persistant problem with CONSTANTLY clearing my throat which is very tiring and drives both my husband and I to distraction In addition in the past 2/3 yrs I have suffered badly from Urticaria (severe itching) on random parts of my body. I was just told to take Antihistamine tablets but having to take them EVERY day winter and summer cannot be good. It was only when I looked online yesterday that I discovered it might be my medication (Amlodopin is the only medication I take) causing the itching and also the constant throat clearing. Am off to my Dr later this week to get my medication changed and see if that helps because my quality of life is being affected probably by this drug. I have never suffered from Urticaria before in my entire life (and I'm no spring chicken) and have never suffered the constant throat clearing either so am presuming it MUST be the Amlodopine.
