Amlodipine Rare Side Effects
Posted , 4 users are following.
I've been experiencing the following:
- fatigue
- lower back pain
- paresthesia (pins and needles/tingling) fingers, toes, face, head
- ongoing chest pain/discomfort
- dizziness
Until I started self-researching chest pain and amlodipine these past couple days I didn't realize such side effects could come from this medication. Story:
I've been seen by a mix of my primary Dr., multiple ER visits, neurologists, muscular neurologists, I've had multiple blood labs, Xrays, MRIs (head and spine), ECGs, chiropractic, and physical therapy. So far no one has been able to diagnose me. I've been told by my primary my back and chest could just be aging. I'm 44 male. For the dizziness I've referred to a balance clinic, I just haven't made the appointment yet. For the tingling, which is all day every day and drives me crazy, I've been told there is nothing to do but wait and see, this from a muscular neurologist specialist. I've been taking amlo for over a year and my first symptom was lower back back, which started 10 months ago. My second was dizziness and chest pains which started 9 months ago. The chest pains have gone away but now have been back 3 weeks and counting. The tingling started 6 months ago. After googling chest pains and amlo I stumbled across this site and read stories of other's with reported like symptoms. I scheduled an appointment with my primary to discuss his thoughts on if the root of all of my issues is from amlo. This appointment is a week away still.
I'm looking for discussions with those who have experienced any of my symptoms and either suspected or know amlo was the culprit.

Hi, though I cant say for a fact but it does seem that YES Amlo is the culprit! Im sorry you are going through this. I hate that they call these "rare" side effects when they are very common. Im around your age and went on Am after I took a diet pill and had pains and tingling and I thought I was having a heart attack. Mind you it last less than a minute and I was fine after that. My BP was high when I went to Urgent Care but EKG normal. MY GP gave me Am for my BP and referred me to a cardiologist to be safe as I have a family history. After a stress test and echocardiogram with normal results, little things on the echo like mild aortic regurgitation that my cardiologist didnt even tell me as he told me my results were fine. I read it on the report, thats how I know. Anyway he put me on a beta blocker which was AWFUL! The side effects were worse than Amlo! I went off the Metoprolol and back to Am. Then I experienced more side effects, not sure how much were rebound from Metop or sides from Am. Its been since the first week in Jan that Ive been off Metop and back on Am. One of the worst symptoms I have is heartburn! And Ive never had heartburn EVER! Its so bad my GP prescribed Omeprazole. Its scary because it causes chest pains and tightness. Im always fearing its my heart! It will effect my back as well. My lower back hurt so bad I couldnt finish my stress test even though I wasnt fatigued, it was just painful. My face is always flushed, I get random pains under my left clavicle and shoulder, some tingling. The first time I took Am before switching to Metop, I did get heartburn but I blamed that on trying to eat better and eating too many strawberries. Now I know its the Am thats doing it! Ive been so bad with it last night and today. Im just not myself and I cry sometimes because I just want to feel normal again. Ive tapered down to 2.5 mgs from 5 mg and havent taken it today cause I just want to be off of it. Yesterday I had chest pains just from carrying groceries and taking down Christmas lights! My BP is staying normal so I am just taking Magnesium, Beet juice and Hibiscus tea to help keep it that way. I have never felt so bad and havent felt this way since I started these meds! They are poison!
