Amlodipine severe back pain

I am new to this forum (to any forum actually) but have spent the last 6+ months in terrible pain in my lower back, sometimes like rods were in my back, other times pins and needles everywhere. It started what seemed out of the blue with no injury or progressive onset. I have done all the usual, PCP, spine specialists, neurologists, two different physical therapists, chiropractor, acupuncture with no real relief. I have had x-rays, (including of my neck which I found really hard to understand since my pain was in my lower back), a CT-scan, and MRI, these showed I had arthritis but nothing abnormal for a 60 year old woman. Last weekend I realized midday my pain was slightly less and that I hadn't taken my blood pressure pills that day. Thinking about it further I realized my back pain started about a month after I began taking amlodipine 2.5mg. I have stopped taking it this week and have felt some relief but am still unsure if it really could be this drug. Has anyone else had similar symptoms?

    Hi Nancy

I think you only need to read the postings on this forum to see that so many people suffer many different aches, pains, pins and needles etc as well as mental health issues. Amlodipine obviously suits lots of people but those who can't tolerate it continue with the symptoms for varying lengths of time even after they stop taking it. They (including myself) doubt the symptoms are because of the drug even though various tests and checks say there is nothing wrong. I often queried the negative results i had whereas i should have been jumping for joy. I suggest you see your GP to discuss your findings about the pain being less when you haven't taken the drug. Perhaps an alternative medication will be the answer. Good luck
