Amputation and bedsores due to diabetes

My dad had a lower leg amputation but since his wound is not closing up, the doctor suggest a above knee amputation and he has done that too. Then later on he also had bedsores on his back. He undergoes few surgeries to get his leg amputated again and also remove dead flesh on his back (if I express it correctly).

At the moment there is a hole on his back and his amputated leg, both are still not closing up. All the doctors and nurses did was scrap off his flesh from time to time, and the doctor just suggest another amputation again to even shorter his leg.

Is there no other treatment rather than just keep amputating and removing his flesh if the wound isn't closing up? It is not like his wound is getting infected....

What make it worst was his bedsores was caused by negligence by the hospital and the wound is becoming bigger and bigger due to the constant scraping off the flesh by the doctor...

Hi Vincent, this sounds really horrible. I’d suggest trying a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, as they offer both acupuncture and herbs. The TCM route is the easiest way to get fast and effective treatent.

We tend to poopoo alternative treatments, but you have a lot of information available to you online. Ask around and find a good TCM Doctor. If you can’t find one, find a local acupuncture school and make an appointment at the clinic.  The schools are very affordable and have amazing practitioners. They also provide herbs or know where to send you to get herbs.

I’ve had excellent success with my mother using berberine, citrus bergamont, cranberry caps (high potency) and oregano oil, as she tends to have chronic kidney and urinary infections.

I was able to get her off all the meds with very strict diet, herbs and acupuncture. Docs said she’d never be off meds due to her extreme condition. It’s a lot of work, but worthwhile, as the medications have many side effects.

PLEASE check the side effects of all your father’s medications, as they may be contributing to the problems he’s having.

I am so sorry you are going through all this,my husbands diabetic foot ulcer has finally closed accept for a hairline crack, its taken almost a year, I know your situation is worse, but the main thing to get it to close was cleaning daily and applying a topical antibiotic and bandage. Yours is a hard case,but...before doing any more amputations if its not infected, see more doctors and try and get a treatment thats non invasive,it could take months, but i cant imagine the constant cutting off of body parts etc unless the last resort, wishing your family all the best. The foot issue was bad enough,I cant imagine what you are going through. XX

I actually think your Dad needs to be seen by another doctor for a second opinion especially if his wound is not  infected. There must be a reason why his bedsores are not healing.  If the bedsores were initially caused by negligence of the hospital could he be transferred to a different hospital?
