Amytriptyline/duloxetine-cymbalta

I was started on 10mg Amytriptyline a week and a half ago and I think it is helping (weather been good so hard to tell) BUT my mouth is so sore as it is so dry and gum, fluids etc do not help. I can’t live with the burning mouth so I was thinking of trying duloxetine.

Does anyone know if either the dry mouth goes away after a while on ami or if dry mouth is a symptom of duloxetine. It says it is but it doesn’t seem as widely reported as ami.

Also they seem to work on the same chemicals, does anyone have an experience of both?

Thanks

I’m having the same problem with Amitriptyline, it’s working so well now on 50-100g that I don’t want to come off it so I’m just following to see if anyone has any tips for the dry mouth and sores, I’m using adult anbesol that numbs the mouth but it’s only a temporary fix smile

Hi Charlotte, I was on amitriptyline for quite a while but it was no good so doc switched me to nortriptyline which takes forever to work but at least I'n not tired the next day.  As for your concern I get the dry mouth, so have to carry water wherever I go.  It's part of the side effects I guess.  I've been on it for a little over a year.  Going to see my pain management specialist in a couple of weeks see if he can shed some light.

    Amithriptilyne .  is a Nerve-pain blocker..with sleep assistance and minor anti-depressant

Hiya Charlotte, .Amithriptilyne is  the only med I take for Fibro it gives me a great pain free sleep no pain at al!, that sleep is what makes this Fibro manageable for, I only get pretty bad flare ups now, where it was just constant  pain almost everywhere and sleepless nights. I take  it 7pm before bed, it really does work wonders ( for me, that is,) we are all very different, I take 25 mg, never had it increased either , started on 50mg but I was like a zombie., all  the next day..dropped to 10mg for a while-still not too good but 25 mg is perfect for me, it is actually an antidepressant that works excellent for pain, it numbs the nerve ends and stops the pain from jumping on to the next nerve, hence a very painful body, also it being an  antidepressant is probably is a lil bonus as most of get depressed from time to time, yes it does knock me out to give me that great sleep which is just sooo needed, to be able to deal with the pain etc the next day, Its great and that’s 16yrs down the track, and yes It makes me very dry mouthed but I use over the counter artificial saliva as I also have Sorgrens Syndrome, it's like a miracle med for me, it does take a while to settle in too and get the dosage right, dry mouth to me is such a small price to pay for this miracle drug,  also, please remember that less stress is the key to Fibro....be blessed..have a lovely day.😍😍😍🙏🙏
