An Experiment with Borax

So, I've been in Vietnam now for just over a month. Haven't had any itching, but the white plaque has expanded and looked like a bit more fusing had occured. Panic set in and of course I was trying not to. However, now that we're here, my husband has been able to start doing more research to help me. And he came across some stuff about borax. So we started an experiment 6 days ago. Not using any steroids, but instead each morning and night he's applying to one side a saturated borax solution and the other side a saturated baking soda solution (as we'd read that some people found baking soda helpful). We've been taking photos in order to compare as we progress. As mentioned, we are on day 6 and there is honestly some change! My clitoris which was quite white has returned to pink. And while the whole area still has some white, the pink is really starting to move in more. The biggest changes are on the side with the borax, with some change on the side with the baking soda (but since some of the borax can get rubbed off on that baking soda side we can't say for certain that the baking soda is having a major effect). We are feeling optimistic about this and I will keep everyone posted. During the day I do continue to add vitamin E oil to keep moisturized.

Thanks for your encouragement. I see from reading further back that people are trying boron as well and links to menopause. I will look into this further. LS has been quite stable with the regime I have been using (dermol for washing, sitz baths, hydromol as a barrier moisturiser) but recently relapsing may be due to trying a different product. Back to my previous routine I think for now then look at how I am going to make progress infusing. I think you are a hero on this site giving so many of us hope. Thank you

HI alistar and alll. Just wanting to thank everyone for advice on borax . I had a dermo appointment at start of Feb 2018 after suffering with an undiagnosed sore spot for almost two years. At this lichen sclerosis was queried - I'd never heard of it and googled only to find this forum- god send! Treatment with dermovate was disastrous- all of a sudden had every symptom possible. Then found borax! Using it daily sometimes with baking soda and have alleviation from every symptom! Today at dermo apt doctor could see no need to do proposed biopsy👍🏻! Really hope to continue management of this condition thro borax and somebody natural oils- thank you so much !!

I am so sorry for the delay in replying. Life has been a bit chaotic at the moment.
When I applied the solution I just applied it all over. At first I used a Q-tip which was of course more location specific, but that was because we were testing things out. Once we saw that it was working, I began soaking a cloth in the solution and gently pressing that into the area and leaving it there for as long as I felt like leaving it. The white area is called plaque. LS has several symptoms including the plaque, the skin can easily crack and break, intense itchiness, sometimes you can small purple blood blisters. It sucks. But, for many thankfully this treatment seems to be helping! I hope it helps you too!!

So I was diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosus a few months ago. Looking back I now realize that I’ve had this disease for a very long time, not as severe as it is now! I have used several different ointments and creams! I take internally CBD oil, but to no avail... I have this all over my body including my mouth and eyes, I can’t twist a cap off a water bottle!
My question to you is does the Borax burn?

I'm so sorry to heart that Kathy. I think so many of us were suffering for a while, but never knew the real culprit. I've also tried CBD oil, however not for any length of time that would've allowed me to see the affecits - I was using it prior to leaving for Vietnam.
Do I understand you correctly in saying that you have LS on your mouth and eyes as well? If so, again, I'm so sorry. I hate this disease so much! It's awful.
As for the borax, I've had it sting a very small bit, but only when I've had a small tear. But everyone is different. Best to start with a small test patch of skin to see how you will react. And if you do find it burns (which I've never heard anyone use that word to describe it), then when you make your saturated solution, use less borax.
Good luck! And if you have any more questions ask away!

I call my LS the “Beast” and we’ll shes invited a couple of friends “Yeast” and “Staph”
My dermatologist diagnosed me 2 weeks ago! She told me to take bleach baths very 2 days, got rid of yeast and the LS has subsided “Staph” wants to hang out for a while! Its been truly hell for the last month! My point is that while it helped “yeast” it helped LS! Some good news!

Bleach sounds horrendous for such delicate tissue. Especially when LS is flaring. I'm not a doctor but I would say be very careful with this idea.

i previously posted about the borax treatment and forgot to ask.
Do you rinse off the the solution after applying the paste/ liquid or leave it in all day? I wouldn’t want to burn any areas .

Alistar , first of all it’s so kind of you to take the time to share your success story with so many people. Truly your a compassionate person, few would take the time out of their busy life’s to offer such encouragement. Thank You!
Ive just been diagnosed via biopsy ‘early stage lichen ‘
Did you have a biopsy done to confirm yours?
I’m hashi thyroid many years.
Are you treated for thyroid issues?
I’m post menopause which is a contributing factor along with thyroid.
Noticed white areas on labia minora & minor fusing previous months ago during which thyroid hormones went out of balance.
I as well experience no itching but visible changes with even one side slightly enlarged while other side shrinkage & fusing LM.
Everyones experince is different in various ways but we all want success without steroids.
I’ve also read great reviews on treatments with spun blood from patients then injected.
Rather costly but in time should be more accessible.
Im going to try estriol cream along with your borax solution method.
Talked with my pharmacist who was very excited and explained boron benefits in detail & preferred I use it over the steroids I was prescribed. He believes it is a hormone issue regardless of varying opinions out there. Hormones can be effected by age , stress, autoimmune disorders just like hashi the list is endless. Body is complex so many things can trigger another.
I will return later as I progress along , surely with more questions about application.
Thx

Sodium borate or sodium bicarbonate? They seem to be 2 totally different things. I dont want to buy the anti acid one if its supposed to be a different one like 20 mule team..... which didnt work......So frustrating to not understand. I'm sorry. This has gotten so bad and Clob has just burns me like a sunburn.

Ordered today. Should receive tomorrow. Stress definitely brings LS to full flare up.
I believe with my whole family having autoimmune diseases that this is the one i am going to be stuck with. Miserable.
I think I may have had it years and attributed it to finally having sex after years of not having sex. My poor husband gets this new me 😢 I hope this stuff works. Clob sets me on fire.
