An Experiment with Borax

So, I've been in Vietnam now for just over a month. Haven't had any itching, but the white plaque has expanded and looked like a bit more fusing had occured. Panic set in and of course I was trying not to. However, now that we're here, my husband has been able to start doing more research to help me. And he came across some stuff about borax. So we started an experiment 6 days ago. Not using any steroids, but instead each morning and night he's applying to one side a saturated borax solution and the other side a saturated baking soda solution (as we'd read that some people found baking soda helpful). We've been taking photos in order to compare as we progress. As mentioned, we are on day 6 and there is honestly some change! My clitoris which was quite white has returned to pink. And while the whole area still has some white, the pink is really starting to move in more. The biggest changes are on the side with the borax, with some change on the side with the baking soda (but since some of the borax can get rubbed off on that baking soda side we can't say for certain that the baking soda is having a major effect). We are feeling optimistic about this and I will keep everyone posted. During the day I do continue to add vitamin E oil to keep moisturized.

    Hi all!

Glad to read that everyone is still having success with the borax treatment, and that so many new people are coming around to giving it a go. Sorry to have been radio-silent, built myself a little business here in Vietnam, so that plus a now 4-year-old has kept me crazy busy.

Anyway, just wanted to touch base and say I'm unfortunately having some itching...the stress of throwing a birthday party when there's too much going on to really get it all done. But you know, I'll fill a small tub, put in some borax (which I'm selling at my refillables shop, so I've always got it on hand now!!) and start the soothing. I was in remission it seemed for ages, but dang it, the LS didn't want to stay away forever! I also suspect that menopause is around the corner, so my hormones are kinda out of whack. But this is life, and LS is and will always unfortunately be a part of it. So try not to let it get you down,...and if it is getting you down, just come back here and read all the amazing success stories.

I have been soaking 20 minutes in a sitz bath with 2 T of borax for 5 days now. This has been in the morning and I have showered afterwards to get ready for work. Should I be showering the night before as perhaps I am rinsing away the borax in the shower?Haven't seen much difference yet.

      Hi there,

Every person is different; different in triggers, different in treatment. When I treated my LS I used a saturated solution, I didn't use a sitz bath. A saturated solution is when you dissolve the borax in water, once it has dissolved you add more and dissolve it. Then when you can't dissolve any more, you'll see borax crystals just sitting on the bottom of the glass, you have a saturated solution - the water is literally full of borax and can't take on any more. I used this topically twice a day. I started by applying it with a cotton swab, eventually soaking a cloth in it and gently wiping and then leaving the cloth in place for sometimes 20-30 minutes, just however long I felt like it. As you can see, my treatment was different from yours. From personal experience, and from the posts that have been added to this thread, I'd say your treatment is fairly light and I don't think it would be surprising that you've not seen much difference. But again, I don't know how far along you are. Take pictures, do comparisons, and if within a month you don't see any change, then I think you need to adjust your treatment.

      Good luck.

So...NEVER put Borax on your Vulva WITHOUT consulting a Doctor!!! I read Everything you all had to say about it and followed instruction so carefully. Almost ended up at ER the pain was so incredible!!! I had done the baths and no problem, then I did the diluted down paste. It literally stripped the skin inside the vulva area completely off!!! Then to urinate was beyond painful and I almost passed out. I thought this would be a for sure thing...The only for sure thing I know is PAIN!!!!!! I thought my husband was going to cry because he saw me in the worst pain I have been in, in my life...Having a baby was much easier than this. PLEASE be careful!!!!!!!!!

      Hi Susan,

I'm so sorry to hear of the reaction you experienced. I know it has already been addressed, and you have clarified that you used the saturated solution and not a paste, but it is also good to try doing a test patch on your skin to find out if you may have a reaction. As is with everything in life, not everything is good for everyone, in food and medicine there are always cases of allergic reactions, unfortunately not discovered until the reaction. Obviously if I had had an adverse reaction to the treatment I would never have shared it. And certainly as you noted, you've read through the comments, so I'm sure you will have seen that unfortunately you are one of a very few who have not had a positive experience with the borax treatment.

I hope you do find something to help with your LS. I have read that there are people who have been using curcumin essential oil with aloe vera and they are having really promising results - a word of note though, curcumin is a VERY strong essentail oil, and I actually had a not great experience using this combination, but I believe it's because I overused the curcumin. Just and FYI 😃

@susan60779 - that sounds terrible, and I'm so sorry that you experienced so much pain. I know that we all have such different reactions to everything, but I'm wondering if perhaps you might have been mistaken in making your diluted solution? I suggest this as you referenced a 'diluted down paste' and the diluted solution should be just that - a liquid solution, made by slowly adding in a quarter teaspoon of Borax at a time until you are no longer able to completely dissolve the salt, and see just a few granules remaining at the bottom. At this point, the solution has become saturated, but it absolutely should not be a paste - it is a liquid. I make this clarification only for those who wish to try it out, and who will likely be discouraged to try it from the conventional medical community, not to undermine your experience. I'm really terribly sorry for that. This condition already causes so much stress and heartache.

I believe there is another website that addresses LS, and the lady who runs it also ingests small amounts of Borax. I believe she made a paste that included Borax, but right now I can't find the site to check it out.

I made a paste for myself - which I did not post here because I am still experimenting. I melted coconut oil till it was liquid then added a smidge of borax. It does not seem to dilute completely, like it does in water, but I found it helpful while travelling and I could not use a borax wash. If I do not use the borax faithfully, I start getting the fusing right away.

Note: the borax/coconut oil paste is gritty in spots and needs to be used Sparingly - I was never burned, since the amount I have in it is so small, but I think the little bit of grittiness causes some irritation.

Every day is a new torment - and what worked yesterday might not work today 😦

I am glad that caution is being advised here in using borax. Any time I am trying some thing new that has to do with a health condition I at least half the recommended dose of what ever is being tried.

If I am sensitive to some thing the sensitivity will show up in a small dose. The inside of the arm is a good place to test for sensitivity just put a small amount of what ever it is that you want to test.

The vaginal region is very sensitive and you want to use extra extra caution any time you are trying to treat a condition in the area.

I called it a paste because thats what someone else had called it. But yes it was a runny solution. However because I have Auto Immune Disease I wonder if it was a reaction to that. The bath didnt bother me at all, no burning no nothing, but maybe that was because there was more water in the tub..? At this point I was and still am willing to try anything that would help. You're right ...different people, different bodies and it could have also been an allergic reaction possibly.

Dear. Susan..you are absolutely correct...don't ever apply Borax as a paste to your delicate skin...I also have a auto immune disease...always dilute in warmest water possible ...do exactly as you described....there is no cure that I know about ...but Borax is my friend...always keep it in the house...but wishing you good health ..and always. be diligent when it comes to this disease...take care ...JoAnn

Hi, I'm new the forum and i plan on trying this this evening. I was diagnosed last year around this time and it was very difficult for me. I was extremely depressed. I was 30 years old when i got the news and there has already been fusing down there that started with the hood and the sides of the vagina.

when i was carrying my second child, i had extreme itch that resulted in a blood blister on the clitoris. went into triage and no doctors new what it was or can help me. it wasnt until after i gave birth my OB told me what it was due to the fusing. im on the steroid cream but after comparing it to last year ita been worse. i constantly fear of my vagina morphing ans no being able to function.

im so happy i found this forum because i feel a sense of community. being 30 doesnt seem normal with this. i fear what it will look like 5 years from now or even next year.

what age were you ladies diagnosed with LS?

how is everyone doing with the borax spray/cotton swap/sitz bath?

how long do you do this for everyday ubtil you can drop it to a few times a week or every other day?

please help! im loosing my mind to this and i feel like this is taking over my life. im so depressed that i dont enjoy my husband and kids. its really killing me inside. i cant sleep or function. i often cry when my family sleeps.

I'm sorry you are in such a state. I know LS can beat you down when you have severe symptoms as I was in a really bad state last year.

I've been drinking borax and bathing for the last eleven months. It changed my life. No more symptoms and I'm infusing slowly.

I also change my diet completely, no sugar, no grains doing slow Carbo and moisturize a lot with different oils.

There is a great page you can address to "sharing is caring about LIQUEN Sclerosus and skin disorders" in FB.

      Good wishes.

Hi and thank you for sharing!!! I really appreciate it. I hope to get my life back in control and I plan to try the sitz bath with your suggestion tonight. How long did you see results? Also did you moisturize with coconut oil or any other oils afterwards. Did you experience any unfusing stinging?

I have a white patch on my clitoris and I hope the sitz bath will help unfuse that along with the rest of my lady parts down there.

      Thanks ❤️

It doesnt fused so quickly., so i dont think the sting is for the unfusing. it takes weeks or months, it dependes. The fist times i bath on borax it did relive my itch very fast. But the rest of my sking itched a litlle bit. I wouldnt

worry, it will pass with the days.

Yes they are women in their thirties, twenties, even small girls and boys and men!

The oils i use are coconut oil(also very good as a lubricant, its a must with our a condition). Cbd oil. Olive oil, Black cumin seeds, with drops of tea tree and lavander. Sometimes i mix them. Some times on their own. As long as the oil is virgin , cold pressed is cool.

Its a pleasure to help you. Thank you. Ask anything you need.

I started to use coconut oil after my first sitz bath yesterday and will continue to use after each time I treat it with the borax. thank you for suggesting the oils. I've started to look into that as well. I really appreciate everyone here! Thank you!

I do have a question, does this eventually effect the anus area or just the vaginal area? I dont know if I'm over thinking it and seeing white dryness.

how did you experience the unfusing? was it red?

      thank you ❤️

Does anyone know if the saturated borax solution, is based on using room temperature water? i know it makes a difference if its on a hotter side(more will get mixed easier)?
