An Experiment with Borax

So, I've been in Vietnam now for just over a month. Haven't had any itching, but the white plaque has expanded and looked like a bit more fusing had occured. Panic set in and of course I was trying not to. However, now that we're here, my husband has been able to start doing more research to help me. And he came across some stuff about borax. So we started an experiment 6 days ago. Not using any steroids, but instead each morning and night he's applying to one side a saturated borax solution and the other side a saturated baking soda solution (as we'd read that some people found baking soda helpful). We've been taking photos in order to compare as we progress. As mentioned, we are on day 6 and there is honestly some change! My clitoris which was quite white has returned to pink. And while the whole area still has some white, the pink is really starting to move in more. The biggest changes are on the side with the borax, with some change on the side with the baking soda (but since some of the borax can get rubbed off on that baking soda side we can't say for certain that the baking soda is having a major effect). We are feeling optimistic about this and I will keep everyone posted. During the day I do continue to add vitamin E oil to keep moisturized.

Hi Alistar, Just wanted to again say THANK YOU! It has been two years now that my lichens has been gone. I literally do not even think about it and everything looks and feels normal. I keep Borax on hand just in case. You are such a blessing to so many. God Bless You!

That is so awesome to hear! Truthfully I don't think much of my LS either, and like you, I keep borax on hand just in case. Sometimes I think, am I wrong, can it really be in remission or something? But so far so good!

Thats amazing! In the two years what is your routine to manage the LC from symptoms and physical changes? I know a lot of the ladies use Borax again when they have an itch but within the two years how did you maintain it?

I really haven't had to do anything. After I got it under control, doing exactly what Alistar did morning and night for about 6 weeks, its been in remission. I've maybe used borax a handful of times since then mostly out of fear the LS would return. Now I really don't even think about it often.

Hi, yes, I stop clovate and strogen because it didn't work for me. And I just use borax. I drink it and I take baths. I also did my diet.

That's truly amazing! Did you use anything to moisturize afterwards? After the six weeks, did you drop one to once a day and slowly decrease the amount?

Dear Alistar, I too want to say Thank you to your husband and you both! It has been almost 3 years now and even with undergoing 4 surgeries my LS has been kept under control by the Borax! I still do the Borax baths once a week as insurance, but have been completely symptom free once I started using the Borax.
God bless you and may this Good Information spread!

how do i know when to decrease using borax? how do you know your in remission? i have been using the borax twice a day since the beginning of january. wondering if i use it until the white disappears or when the fusing is unfused then drop it down or a couple of times a week or would that be considered remission period. i find that im feeling some irritation and dont know if im over doing it with the borax.

Hi Mel, I was symptom free so I started Slowly reducing my spray and as I felt good I then reduced the baths. I alternate between coconut oil and pure olive oil to lubricate morning and night! I have never had any reaction to Borax as some have. LS seems to be very individual to body chemistry.
You mentioned "irritation" are you using the Saturated solution? If not that might help in reducing the irritation. I used that 3 times daily for a good year!
Hope this helps

Hi Joanna43,
Thank you for your reply. I have been using the saturated borax solution. it feels dry after and raw sometimes but i dont know if thats when its working. Im tryng to figure out when to slowly decrease the amount and when im in remission. When you say symptoms free are you referring to the itch, white spots and fusing? Did you find since using the borax, it has helped your LS stay under control in terms of getting worse and changing the appearance of it? (like it maintained the stage where the borax undid all the white spots and fusing?) sorry for the sudden questions. Thanks for your help 😃

Hi Mel34062
My experience is that for a short period of time Borax doesn't work so well anymore and then I switch to baking soda again. (My LS likes variety for some reason) For severe spots I need to use the tiniest amount of clob sometimes. Only on those spots. A bit tricky perhaps. But then all calms down again.

thanks for sharing.
may i ask what the measurements for baking soda is and how dis you know the borax wasnt working anymore?

I use 1/3 of a cup in a full bath. For borax I used less at first, later the same amount as baking soda. In my spray bottle for after bathroom visit I use three pinches (that is the amount you can hold between thumb and finger) and fill with pleasant warm water for the rinse.
When you feel itching or irritation from LS again, you know you have to switch. And when that also doesn't work anymore it is time for the Glob.

Thank you for sharing. I'm going to keep this in mind. Do you use anything for moisturizing? If so, when do you usually moisturize? I found that coconut oil irritated me after using it for a couple of days.
I'm afraid of using the Clob because i don't want it to cause an interference with the borax. When you use the clob, how often to you wait to use the baking soda and borax?

HI Mel,
I use coconut oil only for moisturizing. Mainly before bedtime.
The Glob I use so sparingly, it won't interfere with anything.

hanny - you have been an encouragement to me in this forum since i joined it 2? years ago. I follow a similar regime with borax, coconut oil and emuaid and Betnovate ointment. The latter twice a week for maintenance. And take vitamins. I have had a little more fusing but not much and rarely have other symptoms apart from a faint 'buzz'. I am hoping this is how it will continue provided I stay diligent. Have you found your LS has worsened? Do you and others in here think it can be arrested and stay at a certain stage?
