An Experiment with Borax

So, I've been in Vietnam now for just over a month. Haven't had any itching, but the white plaque has expanded and looked like a bit more fusing had occured. Panic set in and of course I was trying not to. However, now that we're here, my husband has been able to start doing more research to help me. And he came across some stuff about borax. So we started an experiment 6 days ago. Not using any steroids, but instead each morning and night he's applying to one side a saturated borax solution and the other side a saturated baking soda solution (as we'd read that some people found baking soda helpful). We've been taking photos in order to compare as we progress. As mentioned, we are on day 6 and there is honestly some change! My clitoris which was quite white has returned to pink. And while the whole area still has some white, the pink is really starting to move in more. The biggest changes are on the side with the borax, with some change on the side with the baking soda (but since some of the borax can get rubbed off on that baking soda side we can't say for certain that the baking soda is having a major effect). We are feeling optimistic about this and I will keep everyone posted. During the day I do continue to add vitamin E oil to keep moisturized.

So I am completely lost and confused on mixing this. smile I tried making some of this solution and I am not sure if I did this correctly. I guess I am afraid of mixing too much in the water. I have a little jar that hold about one to two ounces. I filled that with water, put the lid on and shock the borax in it. I felt like a few crystals remained at the bottom. This morning when I looked at it all the borax has dissolved. Do I need to add more? Thanks in advance.

      Shook not shock. smile

      Hi Melissa,

I think Alistar may not have seen your message, so I will attempt to answer it for you.  According to her advice, add the borax until the crystals stop dissolving and begin to collect on the bottom.  That's it.  If after a day or two the crystals disappear, it's ok, you've already added enough. This is what I've been doing and have had excellent results.

Thank you for your reply. I will try again. Maybe my jar is too small because as soon as I add a little bit there are still crystals on the bottom. I am using less than 1/8 teaspoon

I guess I use about 1/8th of a teaspoon in a baby food jar that is probably 2 ounces.  After I stir it up there are still crystals on the bottom, but not a lot.  I keep the jar in my refrigerator, although I haven't read that refrigeration is necessary.

      Hi Melissa!

Sorry I have not replied sooner...I'm actually back visiting family in Canada at the moment, so I haven't had much time. Anna seems to have been able to answer things for you though. Good luck! And please keep us posted...and take pictures!! For you, that is going to be a great marker on how things are progressing smile

alistar - first, thank you so much for all the information and support you're providing to folks out there struggling with LS.

I've read quite a bit of this thread and I'm wondering if you have any post with consolidated/condensed information on the treatments that have been working for you? So far I can find the helpful information scattered throughout the thread but maybe I'm missing it! I'm looking for the recipe and application frequency of your borax solution, essential oil blends, foods, etc.

If you've already posted this can you send me the link? If not, I'm sure it would be so helpful and appreciated by everyone following this thread!

Some things I've come across myself:

    - Alcohol and sugar trigger my worst flare ups

    - 3 drops of Lavender and 1 drop of Peppermint essential oils mixed in some coconut oil seems to provide me with temporary relief

I'm so sorry I missed your post! I've been quite busy this past month and emails have been slipping past me.

The recipe for the saturated solution has been repeated a few times, but the essential oils that people have tried are scattered. The saturated solution: take borax and add it to water, stirring until dissolved, once it will no longer disolve you have a saturated solution (as in the water can hold no more borax). As for application, to start I was applying twice a day, once in the morning, once at night. We initially (my husband was my assistant) applied by dipping a q-tip in the solution and applying it to the affected area. We'd do that several times. Then we started dipping a cloth in it and would leave that on the affected area for up 20 minutes or so. Eventually, ie. once my daughter started demanding more attention, I put it in a spray bottle that I leave in the bathroom so I can spritz whenever I feel like I'm having a flare-up. To be honest, I've been doing so well though, I rarely use it.

You definitely want to keep the area moisturized, so like vitamin E is great, coconut oil, jojoba oi,l, taminu oil, emu oil. Frankincese essential oil is one I liked using. Of course as you also mentioned lavender. I've not tried peppermint.

So much of this is individual, different things work for different people. Such a frustrating and challenging disease to deal with!

Hi Alistar my name is Elizabeth I am English but live in Florida USA. I have been suffering LS for 20 years. Last week I discovered Borax for my treatment of LS. I have been drinking it diluted in water (no improvement yet) I was so pleased to find you all. This how I made the paste. 1 tablespoon Borax 1 tablespoon Bicarbonate soda mixed with 3/4 tablespoons of water. It created a milky thick liquid. Will this work as I was unsure on measurements and how it should look Thank you

Blimy, how much of that have you been drinking?   I take 1/8 of a teaspoon of borax per day.     I'm supposed to mix it with water but have found it tastes much better in hot chocolate..     I also dab it on a couple of times a day....   I mix half a teaspoon of borax in about an eggcup of warm water and that lasts the day.  I sometimes bath  with a couple of  large spoonsful of bicarb in the bath water.     Have worked out that that the main ingredient of bath bombs is bicarb,   Not plucked up the courage to try one yet,   Knowing my luck the perfume will irritate the LS.

      hope this helps.

Hello, Elizabeth, I would encourage you to read this thread from the beginning, but the saturated solution that is spoken about on this forum is to take an amount of water and add Borax slowly, stirring until it will not dissolve anymore. I have found that overnight I find some crystals on the bottom. I just shake and continue. I apply twice daily.

      God bless

I am concerned about the same issue and agree with you. I would rather use just the Borax or the Bicarbonate alone ...I feel much safer! Stay well

Very cool to hear that you've found the borax to aid in your arthritic pain. I've got some arthritis in my lower back. Once I've stopped breast feeding I'd like to try ingesting the borax as well, but in the meantime I'll just have to stick to the saturated solution! Thanks for sharing your experiences!

      Hi Elizabeth,

Joanna explained the saturated solution correctly. What I've done recently is make some up, put it in a spray bottle and left that by the toilet. So any time I go I can spritz some on (so essentially it's as fluid as water, not paste like at all). I'm finding, for me, it's best to keep things simple...especially as I have a nearly 2 year old that can be very distracting!

Our original test was bicarb vs borax as I'd read some things about the benefits of bicarb. But we found that the borax was far more effective FOR ME (everyone is different). As I also advise, take pictures from the start so you can see for yourself how things are doing.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Thank you alistar. I have now read all the links and advice and know how to make the solution. What I have discovered on Amason is ph-D Boric Acid Vaginal suppositories. (I live in Florida and they were easy to order ) I used them once and it really helped all the burning although it made the tops of my legs a little red and sore. I will wear a pad and pants next time and shower immediately I get out of bed. I seemed to have developed a internal burning plus the burning from the LS. Thank you again and will report back on my progress

Thank you for sharing. I'll look into that, I've not heard of it. The boric acid part makes me a bit nervous though.
