An Intimate question.

Hi guys,

Can anyone answer this question?

Is it considered beneficial to BPH to have an orgasm or is the opposite true? i.e. better to abstain.

I ask this because, although my interest in such things has greatly diminished since starting Finasteride (leading to dry orgasms) when one does 'get the urge' it worrys me that I may be 'antagonising' things.

Sometimes, after orgasm, I notice a slight increase in flow, which is great, whilst other times it feels quite uncomfortable for a few hours.

What are your thoughts/experiences?

Okay to 'make the best of a bad situation'? Or try to occupy one's thoughts with the meaning of life?

Stephen;  A good and regular sex life is a "healthy" thing.  It is not going to hurt you.  The Finasteride I also was on and it basically killed my sex life.  I had a "PAE" and now Iam off completely the Finasteride and also off the Avodart.  Posters on this site have called both drugs "castration drugs" which is a good name for both.  I now have been off both drugs since Oct. 10th.  I had the PAE on Sept. 10th.  While I still get up 3 times a night to pee atleast I have a great sex life and even the old desire is back.  Also have a nice "explosion" when I ejaculate which is really great.  The PAE shrunk my prostate by 20 to 25%.

Yes, it was beneficial to me right up until the final day my urethra closed down completely on me.  I loved to have orgasms at least a twice a week or as my busy schedule would allow.  It seemed to open up my urethra and I would have a better flow for a day or two.  Even the retro ejaculations seemed to open up the urethra some.   I am 59 and a year ago I was having retro ejaculation due to way too many catheter events from the fall of 2011 through November 2014.  I had the Button Plasma Vaporization TURP procedure in late January 2015 and then again in early March 2015. It has been 4 weeks since the last TURP (my Urologist had to go back in with the Helium laser on the second TURP).  I had the last catheter in for a week after this last TURP and during that week I began to have small erections, like I had not seen in at about 5 years.  Since the last catheter came out my penis is feeling better and better each day and I am having more and more erections, but I have been trying to hold off on having an orgasm, trying to let everything completely heal up better.  Then this past weekend I had a small ejaculation (not much came out, but more than just a drop) and I felt my urethra stretch as the semen came out with the orgasm.  It felt real good!  But, I think I am still going to take it slow and wait a week or so before the next ejaculation test.   My suggestion is have as many orgasms as you can, even 2 or 3 times a day if you can, and enjoy each one.  I think this forum is good and I will post my entire story soon.  Jon

Hi Jon;  I would imagine that when guys read your post they will think the same thing that Iam thinking.  Why did you need to do the procedure twice in such a short time span???  The first thing that comes to my mind is did the surgeon screw up???  No pun intended by the way.  It seems to me that you have gone thru alot of pain and agony over this thing.  Iam scared to death to think about doing it "once" but "twice" is a really scarry thought.  Hope things get better for you real soon.

Hi Chuck and everyone else, I think it is time for me to write up just what happened to me.  Here goes....

I changed urologist from my original that I had been seeing for several years for too frequent urination problems, prostatitis, and several bladder lock-ups where I could not pee and had go to the ER to get a Foley catheter put in, and I think was just taking my money and was not really helping me. To this new Doctor/Urologist, that on the first visit said, that between the Good Lord and himself, he would get me fixed as fast as possible, and he could do any procedure needed; Button Plasma Vaporization or Laser, etc. He said, he would do anything necessary to get me fixed as fast as possible and he would and could use any tool available.  I felt I had found a good doctor. I met this new Urologist on Thursday January 8th with a Foley catheter in me that had been there since December 9th (a month) that my original Urologist had put it in me in the ER about 2:00 a.m. that night, when my bladder locked up, and I could not pee and the hospital ER staff could not get a catheter in me. My new Urologist took that catheter out and by the next morning Friday January 9th, I had locked up again and could not pee. I went back to the new Urologist office and within an hour we (my new Urologist and I) were at the hospital.  I was in so my pain he could not get another catheter in me or his cystoscope to see what was going on in his office. So we went to the hospital ER surgery area where they put me to sleep, so he could get the scope in me to see what was going on and to drain out my bladder. I woke up with a new Foley catheter in me. I saw him in his office a week later, they took that catheter out, and within 2 hours my bladder/urethra/prostate was locked up again he had to put another catheter back in me.  He and I talked about all that was going on with my prostate and my bladder and all of the different procedures, all of which are called the “TURP”.  We went over the Button Plasma Vaporization, the different laser procedures, and everything else that was out there that he could use.  He said, he would use the Button Plasma Vaporization or Laser on me, but he would re-evaluate me when he got back inside my prostate and bladder neck area.  Then on January 27th, back at the hospital, they put me back to sleep, and he did the Button Plasma Vaporization TURP.  Again, I woke up with a new Foley catheter in me. Then a week later back in his office they took that catheter out, then, you guessed it, within about 2 hours later I could not pee and they had to put a catheter back in and drained off about 2 liter of urine.  The next day they did a Uro - dynamics test and he put the scope back in me (with me awake this time). We saw on the scope monitor the flap of tissue he had missed in my bladder neck.  He said, he screwed up by being too conservative and trying to preserve my sexual functions and not leave me where I would leak a lot. So, on March 2nd, we went back to the hospital, they put me back to sleep for another day surgery, and to go home with another big catheter in me.  This time he used the Holmium laser to clean up what he missed the first time.  I had to give him a hard time about having to go back and do warranty work for his screw up the first time.  He was good about that and we had a good laugh. A week later that catheter came out and within 10 minutes I was peeing in the bucket in the office. It was great!!!  I am now back to better than normal, peeing when I need to, beginning to get an erection back, and even had 1 small ejaculation. I am 59 years old, however I feel more like I did when I was about 30. I am going to take it slow until everything gets completely healed before I go back to ejaculating for fun, for now I am just peeing for fun.  I cannot speak for everyone, but the TURP procedures I had were not that bad at all compared to all the bladder lock-ups, needing to pee at any given moment, and needing to wear the depends to keep from peeing in my paints when I knew there would not be a place or restroom when I needed it.   I do not know if the administrator of this forum will take this out or not. But, if anyone wants to talk to me further about what I went through, then please feel free to e-mail me.  Jon

Good morning Jon and Happy Easter to all;  WOW, is all I can say.  In my humble opinion you went thru Hell and back again.  Now that its done and behind you atleast you have a nice life to look forward to.  Hope you heal up 100% and everything gets back to normal.  I must say these "procedures" of Turp no matter what kind do scare the hell out of me.  It seems they never go as planned for alot of guys.   Take Care and Thank You for sharing your story.   Do you have a "Mustang" car???

Good morning ChuckP and Happy Easter to you!  Actually the TURP precedures themselves were not that bad.  They put me to sleep and I woke up with a big catheter in me. Compared to all the real frequent trips to the Restroom's (where ever that needed to be) needing to wear the Depends to keep from peeing in my paints when there was nowhere else to pee, and the  bladder lock ups caused by the prostate closing off the urethra, where I could not pee, or having to have a new Foley catheter put in in an emergency to drain off almost 2 liters of urine for some relief the TURP's were easy. I would suggest for any guy that needs to have it done, do it sooner, than waiting for the first lock up. No, I do not have a Mustang car (yet), but I am 59 years young, there maybe one in my future. I am a pylon judge at the Reno Air Races and I judge racing P-51 Mustang's. I am a Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor, and my airplane of choice is the Cessna 182. Keep us informed on what you do and how it goes for you. I think this forum is good information for guys needing more information than the doctors share sometimes. I have told my Urologist and I made him write it into my chart, that he or his staff gets the question: Do you know any man that has had the TURP and would be willing to talk to me about their procedure? Then I would have no problem talking to them, give them my phone number, e-mail address, or even my mailing address, and I would be happy to talk to that guy. Jon

    Hi Stephen

I agree with ChuckP Finistiride and Tamsulosin and the TURP operation have ruined my sex life. Orgasm is rare and dry and erections are strange, I have an erection at 5 to 7 am when my wife is asleep and at normal times can't get an erection or try to have sex with a part limp penis.I am thinking of seeing my doctor about Viagra.Peter

I can tell you first hand that Viagra does work.  Go for the 100mg tabs and don't even mess around with the 25's or 50's.  Take it on an "empty stomach" thats the key to success.  Drink about 10 oz. of water with it so it will get in your system and do its job.

      Hi Chuck

Many thanks for the information about Viagra. Are there any side effects for using the drug

There are alternatives to Viagra, Cialis and Levitra that your GP or practice nurse can help you with that the NHS will prescribe. Look at vacuum penis pumps and Alprostadil that you inject into the penis or in pill form that you insert into your urethra. You can Google it as ‘erectile dysfunction NHS treatment’

No.  The only thing is you will experience a little bit of stuffiness like when you get a cold.  But it doesn't last.
