An Old Accident

Posted , 4 users are following.

In 1962 I was knocked down by a motorcycle. It was a serious accident causing me to be unconscious for about 6 week (I think), through a fractured scull and pneumonia set in having to have a tracheotomy.

All I can remember is laying in bed with one leg in traction ( broken femur) and the other in full plaster to the groin(broken tibia and fibula). I was paralysed on my left side and lost my left spleen and kidney.

im lucky to be alive but feel this is why I have after effects.

Oh Brenda - that must have been very, very tough for you and your family.

You may well be right that this has affected your recovery but hopefully you will start to progress better soon.

What is your biggest worry right now?

    Big hugs.

      Hi Linda

My biggest worry now is my foot which is stopping me walking well. I'm a member of the ramblers society and I feel it is this that has kept me going. I'm not as fit as some on this group but I'm a lot better than expected.

    hi brenda,

I am so sorry to hear this ... What does your surgeon tell you - can it be related to this old accident and if so, is there anything that can be done ?   were you able to walk without problemes before THR surgery?

what is it exactly that your foot is preventing you from walking ? I apologize if you already mentioned it somewhere else -

I wish I could help you more  ---

    big warm hug

      Hi Renee,

Thanks for your reply.  When I went to the surgeon 3 week ago he actually said he thought it was from the tibula and fibia break that is probably causing the foot problem, thats after 7 months months trying various treatments, he is sending me for a nerve conduction test.

My foot feels solid.  When I'm walking I appear to drag it because it feels so heavy.  My toes and the underneath are tingling all the time.  I can move it but under pressure.  Its hard to explain the feeling, I think you have got to experience it to know how it feels.  The ball of my foot feels solid and the heel.

I don't know what can be done but I will try anything and long to join my rambler friends on a good walk.

      warm hugs to you too

      Hi Renee

I wasn't told anything, I have only seen the consultant once and that was when he told me I needed a hip replacement

I have been been battling years with alternative therapy. The first surgeon told me he was prepared to operate but while I was walking and keeping myself fit he told me to carry on doing what I was doing until it got to the point that I couldn't do it. That is what I did for at least 15 years then I decided it was too much.

It has been the same with my wrist so you can see why I'm undecided.  I am a truer if nothing else.

How are you feeling Brenda C
