Anaesthetic opinion. what is this?

Posted , 6 users are following.

Morning all.

some advice/information needed.

Last February I had a double inguinal hernia repair done and am currently on the waiting list to have my right inguinal hernia done again.

this time I was told it would have to be open surgery and not key hole.

I have the pre operation appiontment at the beginning of November and received a letter saying I'm on the waiting list.

But today I have received a letter with an appointment for a Anaesthetic Opinion? ??? Dose anyone know what this is and why I have to have one. I'm 14 stone and 5ft 11 so I wouldn't have thought its cos of my weight as I feel I'm of normal average size/build.

Thank you

Darren

I am not familiar with the Anaesthetic Opiniion- but would like to know what it is, when you find out,.

This is just routine and probably a general medical check prior to the operation; perhaps the surgeon is being meticulous.  You could ring the surgeon's secretary to ask if there are any added concerns about your health.  Nothing to worry about I would guess.

I'm not really sure about the opinion part, but I had to speak with the anesthesiologist a few days before the operation. Also, I ended up really sick from the anesthesia, after the surgery ( I guess some people have a reaction), and had to spend the night at the hospital. the next day one of the surgeons walked in and said " by the way, we wrote a new formula for you". " you won't get sick next time" So apparently, they can change their formulas for each individual.

Yes, I am aware that they are able to change the formulas, as a good friend of mine went into the hospital for a colonoscopy.   She told me that the first time that she had one of these procedures done she got very sick.   But this latest time they didn't use the same formula and she did not get sick at all.    So, yes, that is possible.

Hello Darren think it is routine now as I was seen by the anaethetist before my incisional hernia repair in September 2014, I think it is a very good idea as the more they know about you the better outcome you get.  I had no problems, everything went very smoothly.  Hope it all goes well for you

Hi Darren.... I've not heard it called that before... but would assume it's all your checks before your operation. I had same last year... open surgery for inguinal hernia... so maybe it's just that... I've heard of people having a spinal anesthetic as well so maybe they are offering you that.Hope all goes well... my operation was a breeze but the recovery was longer due to the surgery.. it was 2 weeks before I felt ready to face the world. Take it easy... and best wishes... Vicky
