Anal abscess two weeks ago, worried about fistula

I had a perianal abscess two weeks ago. I have never experienced pain like it before (I've previously had a pilonidal sinus which laid me up for weeks after surgery). 111 sent me to the Urgent Treatment unit who simply gave me antibiotics and sent me home. A couple of days later the pain was much worse, stopping me from getting any sleep.

I was sent back to urgent treatment. By the time i got there it had burst, the pain relief was incredible. They had a look, doubled the dose of antibiotics and sent me home. I asked about whether it should be cleaned, dressed or have a follow up. They said only if there is pain.

Now, I get a slight pain in my anus occasionally. I have a feeling of needing to go when I don't and general discomfort in the area. I have found a small hard lump just inside my anus which I am worried is a fistula.

My questions are:

  • Is this too soon for a fistula to form?
  • Does a fistula opening ever feel like a small hard lump?
  • Could the lump just be the abscess healing? It is not in the same place as the abscess which was outside the anus but is near it
  • Sometimes it feels like there is something leaking but I've not had noticeable pus on my underwear or on the paper, how much pus/leakage would you expect?

I think it could be in my head as I really do not want an abscess there again - but the small hard lump is there.
